- 1. Translational Motion How far and how fast can you go? It is better to be faster?
- 2. Mechanics - The branch of physics that is concerned with the analysis of the action of forces on matter or material systems. KineMatics - The branch of mechanics that studies the motion of a body or a system of bodies without consideration given to its mass or the forces acting on it.
- 3. Translational/Rectilinear Motion - refers to a type of motion in which a body or object moves along a linear axis rather than a rotational axis
- 4. TranslaTional MoTion How far? DisTance DisplaceMenT - the total path traversed by an object moving from one location to another - the length of straight path connecting the initial position and the final position of an object.
- 5. Still how far? A man walk 10 m, N and then turn East and walk for another 20 m. Determine the distance and displacement.
- 6. TranslaTional MoTion speeD velociTy How fast? Rate of change in displacement with respect to time the distance traveled by an object along its path divided by the amount of time taken
- 7. This time how fast? The boy is walking towards north with a velocity of 2 m/s for 100 s. He decided to go back where he started and walk towards south for 75 s. a) What is the average speed of the boy in his entire travel? b) What is the average velocity of the boy in his entire travel? c) What is the average velocity of the boy when he is returning back?
- 8. TranslaTional MoTion acceleraTion - a vector quantity which measures the rate of change of velocity How fast/slow it becomes faster/slower? - unit is m/s2
- 9. Translational units symbols Distance m d Displacement m Speed m/s v Velocity m/s Acceleration m/s2 a d v
- 10. Translational Motion a vv d at tvd atvv if i if 2 2 22 2 − = += +=
- 11. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. (a)What is the velocity of Humpty Dumpty before reaching the ground if the fall took in 0.5 s? (b)What is the height of the wall? atvv if += smv ssmsmv f f /9.4 )5.0)(/8.9(/0 2 = += 2 2 at tvd i += md s s m s s m d 225.1 2 )5.0(8.9 )5.0(0 2 2 = +=
- 12. 2. The car travels at constant speed of 60km/hr. What is the distance travel after 3hrs? 3. The man started to walk with a speed of 0.5 m/s. If his acceleration is 2 m/s2 , what is the distance after 5 seconds? 4. From rest an object started to move with an acceleration of 2 m/s2 . What is the distance travelled if his velocity after travelling is 10 m/s?
