Camera Care and Cleaning Tips

  1. 1. Camera Care & CleaningCaring for Your Camera
  2. 2. Everyday Camera CareIf you keep your camera safely stored in a camera case, your camera will rarely get very dirty. But every now andthen, you’re likely to get dust on your lens – or, worse, your sensor. In this presentation, we’ll show you what youneed to properly clean your camera. http://www.cameta.com/
  3. 3. Cleaning Your LensYour camera’s lens will likely have to be regularly cleaned. Luckily, the best way to clean your lens is with a soft microfiber cloth. To remove larger particles, give your lens a quick blast ofair with a rocket blower, and use a lens pen to clean thelens’ harder-to-reach areas. http://www.cameta.com/
  4. 4. Cleaning the Camera BodyTo clean the camera body, use a dry cloth or dedicatedmicro fiber cloth (not the same one you use to clean yourlens). If the camera is extremely dirty, you may use a clothdampened slightly with water, but be extremely carefulwhen doing this. It’s important not to get the lens or any ofthe controls wet.For an LCD screen, a dry microfiber cloth will workperfectly. http://www.cameta.com/
  5. 5. Checking Your Sensor for DustIf you experience specs or smudges in your photos, it’s agood indication that you have dust on your sensor filter. Tocheck, put your camera in manual mode, stop youraperture down to f16 and set your camera to the lowestISO (100-200, depending on your camera).Next, take a photo of a brightly lit piece of plain white paperor a bright, cloudless sky. Magnify the image using yourLCD controls and scroll through the image, looking for dust. http://www.cameta.com/
  6. 6. Cleaning Your SensorBefore you clean your sensor, make sure your camera’sbatteries are fully charged. Then:1. Blow around the lens and casing with a rocket blower, making sure you don’t knock more dust onto your sensor when taking the lens off.2. Take the lens off.3. Blow into the housing, clearing the dust away with the rocket blower.4. Put your camera back together and repeat the dust test. http://www.cameta.com/
  7. 7. Swabbing Dust from Your SensorIf you still have dust after the second test, use an sensorswap appropriate for the size of your camera. We swear bythe VisibleDust EZ Sensor Cleaning Kit.You can also use a sensor cleaning pen. http://www.cameta.com/
  8. 8. PrecautionsAs with any other expensive equipment, it’s important to beextremely careful when cleaning your camera and lenses. Follow manufacturer instructions for cleaning. Follow instructions on any camera cleaning kit or tool. Take extreme care when cleaning your camera lens and sensor. http://www.cameta.com/
