CPWF and M-POWER Fellowship Program in the Mekong Region

  2. 2. The Fellowship Programme Objective <ul><li>To help build capacity and provide support to people interested in improving the interface between research-based knowledge and policy for the sustainable management of water resources in the Mekong basin. </li></ul>
  3. 3. First call: April 1 st , 2011 <ul><li>Five grants @ US$10,000 </li></ul><ul><li>Must complement CPWF Mekong program. </li></ul><ul><li>Grant period = 1 year. </li></ul><ul><li>Open to anyone. </li></ul><ul><li>Concept notes will be reviewed by independent panel. </li></ul>

Focus areas <ul><li>How do Chinese officials and agencies view the Mekong-related interests of downstream countries? </li></ul><ul><li>What is the performance to date of the basin's river basin organisations (excluding the MRC) and how can their performance be improved? </li></ul><ul><li>In what ways does hydropower decision-making and administration need to be improved in the Mekong? </li></ul>
  5. 5. Second and third calls <ul><li>Focus areas to be determined. </li></ul><ul><li>2 nd call later this year. </li></ul><ul><li>Same grant sizes, but up to 25 grants per year. </li></ul><ul><li>3 rd call in 2012. </li></ul>

  8. 8. ‘ Complementary projects ’ <ul><li>Grant of US$2.5 million. </li></ul><ul><li>Project size: US$100,000-500,000. </li></ul><ul><li>Must complement CPWF Mekong Program. </li></ul><ul><li>Must end before December, 2013. </li></ul><ul><li>Focus areas not yet established. </li></ul><ul><li>Must demonstrate research-for-development. </li></ul><ul><li>About 50% commissioned, 50% competitive. </li></ul>
  9. 9. ‘ Complimentary projects ’ <ul><li>CPWF will give favour and support to national partners. </li></ul><ul><li>Must be cross-sectoral/cross-departmental/ cross-ministerial. </li></ul><ul><li>Favour given to cross-boundary projects. </li></ul><ul><li>First call in June, 2011. </li></ul>
  10. 10. The CPWF invitation <ul><li>The CPWF invites Provincial and National Authorities to discussions partnerships, and the possible focus of complimentary projects. </li></ul>
