PROPOSED September Service Change Meetings

  2. 2. 2 Housekeeping items  The purpose of this meeting is to take public comments on proposed service changes effective Monday, September 1, 2014.  Silence all cell phones.  Be considerate of meeting attendees and COTA staff.  When it is your turn to make a comment or ask a question about COTA’s service changes, remain at your seat and we will call upon you.  Comments and questions are limited to two minutes per person.  Participants are encouraged to complete comment cards.  Ask one question at a time so the appropriate COTA staff member may address your comment.
  3. 3. 3 Timelines COTA modifies service three times per year:  First Monday of:  January  May  September  September 2014 changes will begin on Monday, September 1.

  5. 5. 5 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 1 Cleveland Ave. (Weekday)  An additional early A.M. trip may be added to the Westerville Park & Ride.  Line 2 E. Main (Weekday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 2 E. Main (Saturday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 2 N. High (Weekday)  To adjust for an increase in student ridership during the fall, travel times and trip start times may be modified through OSU’s campus.  Line 2 N. High (Saturday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.

High (Sunday)  Afternoon and evening frequency may be improved to 15-minutes up to Blenheim loop.  Frequency of service may be improved to 30-minutes as far north as North Street from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Line 3 W. Mound St. (Sunday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  May be affected by changes to Line 5 W. Fifth Ave.  Line 5 W. Fifth Ave. (Sunday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 7 Neil Ave. (Weekday)  To adjust for an increase in student ridership during the fall, travel times and trip start times may be modified through OSU’s campus.
  7. 7. 7 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 8 Frebis Ave. (Weekday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 8 Hamilton Ave. (Weekday)  Service may be removed from Granville Center, and all trips may go to Busch and Shapter.  Line 9 Leonard/Brentnell (Weekday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 9 Leonard/Brentnell (Sunday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 11 Oak/Bryden (All Days)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.
  8. 8. 8 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 11 Saint Clair Ave. (All Days)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 15 Grove City (Saturday and Sunday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 18 Kenny Rd. (Weekday)  To adjust for an increase in student ridership during the fall, travel times and trip start times may be modified through OSU’s campus.  Line 18 Kenny Rd.   9. 9. 9 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 222 W Broad/Casino (Friday and Saturday)  Due to very low ridership, service on line 222 may be discontinued.
  10. 10. 10 September 2014 proposed service changes Express lines (Note: Weekday-only modifications)
  11. 11. 11 September 2014 proposed service changes  New Park & Ride in New Albany  COTA has partnered with the City of New Albany to provide better service to employees at the New Albany Business Park and residents of New Albany.  New Park & Ride is located on Forest Drive.  Shuttles provided by City of New Albany will meet COTA buses at the new Park & Ride location and circulate employees through the business park.  New Albany routes (38, 39 and 40) are proposed for modification in conjunction with this new Park & Ride.
  12. 12. 12 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 38 Easton (Weekday)  Line 38 alignment may be extended north to Sunbury Road in conjunction with the proposed realignment of Line 39 New Albany. The extended alignment would serve the Valley Quail loop previously served by Line 39.  Due to low ridership, the Strawberry Farms portion of Line 38 may be discontinued.
  13. 13. 13 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 39 New Albany (Weekday)  Line 39 alignment may be modified. The proposed alignment would start at the new New Albany Park & Ride on Forest Drive. From the new Park & Ride, service will travel non-stop between New Albany and downtown, terminating at COTA’s South Terminal in downtown Columbus.
  14. 14. 14 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 40 New Albany (Weekday)  Line 40 alignment may be modified. The proposed alignment would start at the COTA South Terminal, travel to the Easton Transit Center, and then travel to COTA’s new Park & Ride on Forest Drive. At the new Park & Ride location, shuttles provided by the City of New Albany will transport passengers to their place of employment within the New Albany Business Park.

  16. 16. 16 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 89 Hamilton Road (All Days)  Line 89 service may be extended to Morse Road. Service would travel on Hamilton Road between Broad Street and Morse Road at a 30-minute frequency weekdays and Saturdays, and a 60-minute frequency on Sundays.
  17. 17. 17 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 89 Hamilton Road (All Days)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 92 James/Stelzer (Weekday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 92 James/Stelzer (Saturday)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.  Line 95 Morse/Henderson (All Days)  Travel times may be modified to improve on-time performance.
  18. 18. 18 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 96 W. 5th Ave. (All Days)  Line 96 service may be discontinued on Hamilton Road north of Morrison Road, Rocky Fork Boulevard, Harrow Boulevard and Waterbury Boulevard.
  19. 19. 19 September 2014 proposed service changes  Line 98 Zoo Bus (All Days)  Service will stop on the following dates:  Weekdays – August 29  Saturday – August 30  Sunday/Holiday – September 1 (Labor Day)

  21. 21. 21 Bus Stop Service Improvement Project  Project Goals:  Optimally space bus stops to balance the need for quick in-vehicle travel time with considerations of the distance that customers must walk to access bus stops  Improve operational efficiency  Reduce maintenance costs of underutilized bus stops  Improve travel times, where possible
  22. 22. 22 Bus Stop Service Improvement Project  The following lines were analyzed for September 2014:  Line 34 Karl Rd. (Express)  Line 41 Gahanna (Express)  Line 81 Hudson/Ohio (Crosstown)  Line 96 5th Ave. (Crosstown)  Bus lines that share stops with the above lines may also be affected by bus stop changes as part of this project.
  23. 23. 23 Bus Stop Service Improvement Project  A public comment period about these changes will be held from June 9 through June 30, 2014.  Maps of all proposed changes, and a list of all affected stops are available for review at this meeting, and are available online at: http://www.cota.com/BusStopServiceImproveme nt.aspx  Commuter Bulletins about proposed changes are being posted at affected bus stops the week of June 9.
  24. 24. 24 Bus Stop Service Improvement Project Questions?
  25. 25. 25 COTA update  COTA.com website is being redesigned to be more friendly for mobile users and to provide access to real-time bus arrival information.  COTA’s South and North Terminals Downtown are undergoing refurbishment to accommodate CNG buses.  COTA is undertaking a Transit System Review  First round of public meetings were held the week of March 17  Second round of public meetings were held May 28 – June 4 to review the proposed final bus network design  Transit System Review will be complete September 2014  See website at www.cota.com/tsr for more information
  26. 26. 26 COTA update  Cleveland Avenue Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project Development:  Project Development activities for the proposed BRT line are continuing, which include conducting an environmental clearance study and preliminary engineering/design.  Three public meetings were conducted in April 2014.  Next public meeting: July 15th, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Columbus Baptist Temple 5075 Cleveland Avenue  A Project Update sheet is available at today’s sign-in desk.  For more information visit www.cotabrt.com
