Dangerous Church 3 Slides, 10/3/10

  1. 1. Dangerous Church! • A church that turns “normal” upside down. • A church that impacts society • A church that isn’t happy with the “same ol’ same ol’” • A church where it’s SAFE to be REAL. • A church that’s willing to risk everything. • A church that’s more concerned about obeying God than making everyone HAPPY. • A church that’s willing to hear and RESPOND to the Word of God, even when it’s hard. • A church that’s filled with people who are willing to “lay down their lives.”
  2. 2. Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?“ And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.“ He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?“ Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.“ And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
  3. 3. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.“ Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ. Matthew 16:13-20 (ESV)
  4. 4. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. Acts 2:44-45 (ESV) ...they received their food with glad and generous hearts, Acts 2:46 (ESV)
  5. 5. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, Acts 2:46 (ESV)
  6. 6. …praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 2:47 (ESV)
  7. 7. • We want to spend time in prayer, asking God to do what we could never do. • We want to spend time confessing Jesus as our Lord, and Head of His church. • We want to spend time praising God. • In all of this, let’s ASK Him to build CLA into a DANGEROUS CHURCH that will break down the gates of Hell.
