4. 4.

Theory of Change

In order for positive and radical change to take place in the African American community, it must continue to strengthen its efforts to be self-determining. To this end, The Sankofa Fund of SW PA circle of givers believes that it must provide support to organizations developing and implementing innovative solutions to the challenges of our community. As self-determination is a key value of our work, we place a particular emphasis on those efforts that seek to build and strengthen the institutions constructed and led by the African American community.

9/30/2011

 9. 9. In the next five to ten years, we would like to see the circle viewed as a leader in identifying key issues in the community and having the ability to provide financial support that has a major impact on the issues. We would also expect the circle to have the power to leverage other funds from foundations, organizations, and individuals to address the issues it views as critical. We would expect that at the end of ten years, the circle would have endowment funds of at least $250,000. We would also begin continuity planning for the circle within the first five years. We also hope that circle members will have provided guidance to others interested in forming their own giving circles. POISE and PACE have also commissioned research to document and celebrate collective giving in the African American community in Pittsburgh. 9/30/2011
