  2. Typologies of Change

Editor's Notes

  1. Introductory remarks Protocol Welcoming the First Lady of Rwanda, Ministers of Agriculture, Gender and Finance present, Heads of Institutions More importantly, the women farmers and agribusiness owners, who are the reason we have this symposium and some of who will be speaking in a panel later
  2. Why hold this symposium? Every year at the AGRF, some of the AGRF partners put a spotlight on Women in Agriculture and Agribusiness. We believe that for Africa’s agricultural transformation to happen, women must be at the table. We bring to the AGRF women who are in agribusiness to show case their products and to make important market linkages. They get an opportunity to link with service provides including financial companies, global companies, governments. Women smallholders and women in business get a platform to discuss the issues that matter to them. Our motto is that the AGRF can not be for women, without women. I would like to appreciate the members of this Thematic Working Group on Women in Agriculture and Agribusiness. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) who co-chair the group with us at IDRC The Alliance for A Green Revolution in Africa, AGRA The African Enterprise Challenge Fund CARE The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation And Global Affairs Canada And the African Women in Agriculture Research and Development, AWARD These partners all have a commitment to supporting women smallholder farmers and women in agribusiness, in their belief that it is the right thing to do, and it is a pre-requisite for agricultural growth, and for meeting the food and nutrition security needs of the continent.
