Challenge: How to use K from gender-ag work to inform and improve forest landscape projects, programs, investments at the World Bank and elsewhere.
This CGIAR/CCAFS research shows that much progress has been made in the last few years at identifying gendered research questions and developing new research approaches for addressing them; but also that many gaps remain. Women in ag remain neglected; guidelines are lacking.
PROFORโs gender program has produced practical guidelines outlining ideas for specific forest landscape-related project activities and program actions that are gender-responsive. These and other knowledge products are especially targeted at forest project design teams. The REACH-BENEFIT-EMPOWER framework from IFPRI is very helpful.
REDD+ stands for countries' efforts to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and foster conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks.
One of the WBโs most innovative and targeted programs reaching women and IPs is FIPโs Dedicated Grant Mechanism program. We are currently looking at how well it is reaching and benefitting women in 3 countries โ Burkina, Peru and Brazil. In Mexico, the DGM has also supported innovative behavioral science-based gender analysis and โaction researchโ testing interventions targeting women, aimed at increasing participation and benefits from govโt forest/NRM programs.
