Leather bracelet

  1. 1. Braided Leather Bracelet This bracelet was shown to me by Jeff Leida of Blinddog Leather. It is similar to Rene Berends Leather Jewelry making Video where he also shows how to make leather stones, available through Hide Crafter Leather Company. Rene does his a bit differently which makes the braid stand up higher. Materials & Tools Leather strip of 3/4 oz or 5/6 strip 1” smaller than your wrist, ½” wide 3/32” Lace Lacing needle Hole punch Favorite closure Slicker ½” Round end punch Carnauba Cream Edger Cut leather strip about 1” less than what it takes to wrap around your wrist, edge it and punch 3 hole as shown in (Fig. 1) The end with two holes, size of the end one depends on what type of closure you are going to use. I was going to use a button found at any fabric store. Slick the edges. This will allow lace to wrap around the strip smoother. Because I chose to use a button as a closure I started with a loop at the single hole end to loop over the button. (Figs. 2 & 3) Glue lace to back side of leather. Wrap lace around strip. Keep lace close and tight but not so tight to bend strip. (Fig. 4) At the end I ran the lace up from back side through closest hole and through loop on back of button. (Fig. 5) I pulled the loop of the button and with the lace through it into the larger
  2. 2. Braided Leather Bracelet hole at the end. Put needle on lace and put back up through the second hole to be on the top side of the bracelet. (Fig. 6) Go up two wraps an insert needle coming back under. Flatten each lace as you go under it. (if you go to outside it will just make the weave wider all depends on the look you are wanting.) Continue this until the end. You are going up one past the last one and back under two each time. (Fig. 7 & 8) Once you have reach the other end. Go around last loop twice with second time going back down through starting hole and run under several wraps on the back side and cut off. (Fig. 9) Coat entire bracelet in Carnauba cream, rub in with hands and start shaping in to shape of bracelet. Allow to dry and buff with soft brush. (Fig. 10) You can also do it in two tone lace by starting the second color tucked under the back side of the bracelet under the wraps and come up through the holes and start the braid. (Fig. 11) Have fun and thanks for letting me share. Anne Newkold Newkold’s Leather Emporium Reseda, CA
