How to Save Money on Gas

  1. 1. How To Save Money On Gas When is it Best to Fill Up Your Gas Tank? And many other questions about fuel answered here!source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/when-is-it-best-to-fill-up-your-tank.html
  2. 2. How To Save Money On Gas• With the price of gas rising once again there seems to be more and more articles and blog entries out there on how to save money at the pump. And guess what? This is another one! I couldn’t resist throwing in my two cents to try and save you a few bucks. After some research here is what I found when it comes to when to fill up and how to fill up.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/when-is-it-best-to-fill-up-your-tank.html
  3. 3. Fill Up When It is Cold Outside• Like most substances, fuel contracts when it gets cold outside. This means if you fill up in the morning or at night when it is cold you will get more bang for your buck. You buy 10 gallons in the morning and that may expand to 11 or 12 gallons in the hot afternoon.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/when-is-it-best-to-fill-up-your-tank.html
  4. 4. Fill It All The Way Up• You may not want to fill your tank up all the way because looking at the fuel pump price tick past $50, then $60, and $70 and so on makes you feel like you are paying too much, but it is the right move. If you are constantly throwing in $10 here and $8 there, the cost of going out of your way to pull into a gas station actually makes the process less efficient and more expensive. Bite the bullet and fill up all the way the first time.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/when-is-it-best-to-fill-up-your-tank.html
  5. 5. Don’t Wait Til the Tank is Empty to Fill Up • Filling up all the way is good, waiting till you are on empty is bad. If you wait til you are on fumes this will strain your fuel pump. It will start to suck up all the debris and water at the bottom of your tank. This can clog the filter and lead to you having to replace the fuel pump assembly. Instead of filling up on-time for $75 a pop, you now have to replace a part that can run anywhere from $100 to $500. The ideal level to fill up is at a quarter tank. This allows you to take advantage of better gas mileage since the car is lighter at a quarter tank, but also will not strain your pump. source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/when-is-it-best-to-fill-up-your-tank.html
  6. 6. Just Start Driving • Unless you are in very cold conditions, you don’t need to leave the car idling for too long, “just in case”. Precious and valuable fuel is being burnt and you’re not going anywhere fast. This will depend on your car and the current conditions, but in the interest of fuel efficiency, you need to put your foot down sooner rather than later. You should only keep your car running in idle when it is absolutely necessary.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/ways-to-make-your-car-more-fuel-efficient-and- save-money.html
  7. 7. Don’t hit the breaks too much • Some drivers have the tendency of breaking more often than they really need to. Don’t be like those drivers. Constantly speeding up and then quickly slowing down again. Look at the situation and traffic in front of you and drive smartly to minimize the need for braking.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/ways-to-make-your-car-more-fuel-efficient-and- save-money.html
  8. 8. Know when to switch it off… • If the car will be stopping for a long time (more than 10 minutes) you should always turn off the car to maintain high fuel efficiency. Don’t burn any more gas than needed.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/ways-to-make-your-car-more-fuel-efficient-and- save-money.html
  9. 9. …And when to keep it on • However, if you are stopping the car for a brief time (a few minutes or less) then don’t turn off the engine. When you start the car it does burns gas, and that would be more than what would be burnt while staying idle for a just a moment.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/ways-to-make-your-car-more-fuel-efficient-and- save-money.html
  10. 10. Check the air filter • Keeping the air filter clean allows for the efficient flow of air into the engine. Overtime the filter will get clogged up and dirty. You should occasionally check the condition of the filter and depending on the type, clean it or replace it.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/ways-to-make-your-car-more-fuel-efficient-and- save-money.html
  11. 11. Check the tires • You shouldn’t only worry about the tires when they go flat. If the tire is not properly inflated, you will lose fuel efficiency. This will cost you in the long-term. Always check up on the tire pressure on a regular basis.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/ways-to-make-your-car-more-fuel-efficient-and- save-money.html
  12. 12. Get organized and plan ahead • Take a look at the errands you have to run and try to combine some of them into one multi- stop journey, instead of lots of smaller trips. Plan your drive ahead of time. Look for the route with the least stoplights and traffic.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/ways-to-make-your-car-more-fuel-efficient-and- save-money.html
  13. 13. Always Buy Gas Once A Month• Gas is actually seasonal and is changed from month to month. You do not want to be running the summer mix in the dead of winter, and vice-versa. Summer gas has lower vapor pressure and your car may fail to start in January. Although, if you still have July gas in your car in January you probably don’t use too much gas and are not worried about gas prices all that much.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/when-is-it-best-to-fill-up-your-tank.html
  14. 14. Fill Up Before the End of The World!• This one is a little conspiracy theory based. Some people say that when a natural disaster or big storm is approaching prices will raise because there will be a run on gas. So, if you see a storm coming or can predict an earthquake fill up your tank and maybe fill up some extra tanks too. Even if the price doesn’t actually jump it will still be nice to avoid 5 hour lines for gas after disaster strikes.source: http://www.buyautoparts.com/blog/when-is-it-best-to-fill-up-your-tank.html
