  2. 2. What is employee surveillance?• Monitoring the employee/s actions during the working period• This is generally done by the supervisor or manager what ever the case may be in order to keep the employee on task.

What equipment is used to monitor employees?• Video camera surveillance• Spy-ware software• Other workers that observe employees• Desktop monitoring software – remotely connect to employees PC and even control it etc• Log files – leave a record of all the activities that took place on the PC• Phone recording

The advantages and disadvantagesAdvantages:• Maintaining or increasing companies productivity• Reduces possibility of liability• Increase security on your networkDisadvantages:• Violating privacy of employees• Exploitation of employees, they become nervous etc• Trust issue between employer and employee• Cost of set-up and maintenance• Can increase stress amongst employees resulting in sickness• Target employees unfairly

User Agreement• The single most important tool an employer has to protect his/her business IT.• This is used by an employer to educate their staff about the rules and regulations• It also provides a platform to terminate a persons employment if they have broken the rules.• It is a legal document and can be used if the employee feels they have been unfairly dismissed.

What is in a User Agreement?Rules governing• User passwords and access to the network• What data can or can’t be saved on the network• What software can or can’t be added to network• The way technology is treated (stolen, damaged)• Remote access to the network• The use and maintenance of technology (anti- virus)• And more.
