  2. 2. WHAT IS TELEWORKING ? Telework occurs when information and communicationstechnologies are applied to enable work to be done at a distance fromthe place where the work results are needed or where the work wouldconventionally have been done.
  3. 3.  Home based telework, when an employee or contractor works athome instead of travelling to an employers or a customers premises. Mobile telework, when executives, professionals or service staffsusing new tecnologies to enable them to spend more time withcustomers and to deliver a range of services and capabilities.
  4. 4.  Telework also affects some kinds of "manpower", in that manykinds of work can now be done from thousands of miles away andacross national borders.
  5. 5. ADVANTAGES Save Time - When you work from home, you wont have to spend timetraveling back and forth to work every day. If your position doesntrequire you to meet face to face with coworkers or clients, you can alsosave the time that it takes to get dressed for the office every day. Save Money - When you dont have to commute to an office on aregular basis, you can save a significant amount of money in fuelexpenses.
  6. 6.  Schedule Flexibility - Many telecommuting jobs provide workers withthe opportunity to work flexible hours, planning job-related activitiesaround family and other responsibilities. Often, telecommuting workersare able to work any time of the day or night, from home or otherlocations. Earning Potential - Many telecommuting positions offer performancebased compensation rather than traditional hourly pay system.
  7. 7. DISADVANTAGES Management Challenges - When you work from home, it cansometimes become difficult to separate work time from homeresponsibilities. Working from home requires a great deal of selfcontrol and discipline. Telecommuters have to learn to set limits forthemselves as well as for the other members of their household inorder to prevent the problems that might arise when work and theactivities of daily living overlap too much.
  8. 8.  Friends and Family - It can sometimes be difficult for friends andrelatives to understand that the fact that you are working at homedoes not mean that you are available to chat, run errands, goshopping. When you begin telecommuting, dont fall into the trap ofletting people pull you away from what you need to accomplish duringthe time you have set aside to work.
  9. 9.  Lack of Social Interaction - When you are accustomed to workingin an office environment, you have an opportunity to interact with co-workers on a regular basis. Even though dealing with your coworkersmay be challenging at sometimes, interacting with others helps meetthe important social needs.
