In fact managing a team when you’re in
different places can be really tricky.

Because it’s much harder to chase
something up when someone isn’t

And even worse if they’ve finished work
for the week and gone to the pub whilst
you have 5 more hours to go and really
need something from them.

Have working sessions.

When you sit in an office you can always
ask for someone’s opinion,

But the barrier to that is much higher if you
have to call them up.

Use something like Skype to work on a
project together.

Often two heads are better than one so use a tool to
work on a project at the same time and share ideas.

Don’t just talk about work, it will take
ages to get to know your colleagues.

When a project is tough you need
to put in extra hours, or just need
someone to bail you out.

It’s much easier on both sides if
you know and like your colleagues.

And tell your colleagues about something interesting you
learned that day, it usually promotes a good discussion.

So if there’s an ocean, or just a couple of cities between you
and your colleagues, it’s no excuse for not having a great
team that works together really well.
