  13. 13. ¨  People may not understand brain injury. ¨  Let alone all the challenges brain injury can present. ¨  Let alone the unique needs people with brain injury have. ¨  This is why education about brain injury is important.
  14. 14. ¨  Define the problem, concern, or interest that is of importance to you. ¨  Know what you want to accomplish and why. ¨  Begin with the end in mind. Define the specific end you want to realize. ¨  Define the message, idea, or point you want to communicate. ¨  Put in story form, if applicable. ¨  State what you want from the person.

Logically assemble your thoughts ¡  Opening ¡  Body ú  3-5 key points within body. ú  Include subpoints to support key points. ú  Support each subpoint with definitions, descriptions, explanations, examples, facts, statistics, authorities, testimony, stories/anecdotes, visual aides. ú  Reinforce/summarize the ideas. Be memorable (use challenge, question, anecdote, quotation). ¡  Conclusion ¨  Create an opening and conclusion after the body.
  16. 16. ¨  Providing counsel on how to prepare for your appeal. ¨  Facilitating connections to elected officials. ¨  Researching issues on one’s behalf. ¨  Providing one with information and resources related to government services.
