Goals ● Engage in dialogue around issues, challenges, and circumstances resulting from holding leadership roles in your Bonner programs ● Strategize methods of combating challenges and highlighting strengths in the areas of boosting Bonner morale and community, peer mobilization, and peer/team management ● Return to campus with key take-away strategies to troubleshoot challenges and support your Bonner programs, campuses, and communities

Shared Agreements Step up/Step Out -- During discussions, we encourage our quiet Bonners to Step up and contribute to the conversation, while also encouraging our Bonners with ‘larger personalities’ to Step Out (figuratively) to make room for others to speak. Don’t Yuck My Yum-- What one person may love, another may not. We ask that everyone be respectful of others personal means of self expressions and opinions. Communication-Station-- Keep an open line of communication! Express your opinion and during times of strife, talk it out with the person(s) involved and not amongst other peers. 48 Hour Rule-- If something offensive is said or done among the group, you have 48 hours to address it with the person or you must let it go.
  9. 9. Agenda ● Different scenarios: challenges, issues, or circumstances dealing with three big skill categories ● 30 minutes to troubleshoot and create a 2-3 minute skit ● 60 minutes for skit presentations to entire group ● 10 minute debrief/closing

  11. 11. Discussion Questions ● Have you encountered this scenario in your Bonner program, campus, or community? How did you handle it? ● What would be the best way to address the scenario at hand?

  13. 13. Skit Guidelines ● Be creative! ● Involve all members of the group in the skit ● Be able to share at least TWO strategies to combat the issue/challenge/situation ● Share your skit in 3 minutes or less!

Bonner Morale ● “Bonner Love” intern or leadership position is helpful to boost community ● Ensure that there are ways for Bonner feedback to be heard ○ “Bonner Talk Backs” meetings ○ Intern office hours or one-on-ones ○ Anonymous survey ● Taking time to share strengths of the Bonners/highlight each Bonner

Peer Mobilization ● Utilize existing structures for engagement (e.g. service requirements for Greek life and/or campus organizations) ● Appeal to student interests (e.g. advertise issue-based opportunities to students studying that topic or previously interested in that site) ● “Bring a friend” initiatives

Team Management ● Utilize surveys to gauge member interests ● Create team bonding opportunities such as social events, with input from team members ● Create opportunities to meet in informal settings with team members (coffee talks, Bonner Talks Lunch, etc.) for a more holistic understanding of each member ● Have specific guidelines for behavior and disciplinary action (e.g. probation) that are followed so that team members know they will be held accountable
