Green Energy Projects

 1. 1. Denver Hospitals Go Green!
2. 2. Hospitals Go Green!
Hospitals in the U.S. use an average of 27.5 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity and 1100 BTU’s of natural gas per square foot (ft2) annually.

In a typical hospital, lighting, heating, cooling, and hot water represent about 80 percent of total energy use, making those systems the best targets for energy savings.
 3. 3. Source: Xcel Energy

MTB’s Green Hospital Package

What is it?

- A free assessment of your facility

What will it do?

- The assessment will determine the cost and feasibility of several renewable and efficient projects targeting hospital specific issues.

What are the Renewable and efficiency projects?
 4. 4. Read on!

Possible Cost Savings Projects
Engineering Evaluations
Water Consumption Evaluation
Xcel Energy’s Re-commissioning Program
Lighting Audit
Utilities Monitoring System Evaluation
5. 5. Xcel Energy Re-commissioning Study
What is it?
An evaluation of the facilities' systems and operations including:
HVAC
Consumption and Peak loads
Energy Management System
What will it do?
The evaluation will identify short and long range energy conservation opportunities
What incentives are available?
75% Rebate on study from Xcel Energy
6. 6. Water Consumption Evaluation
What is it?
Evaluation by an engineering firm to determine the facilities current water usage
What will it do?
The evaluation will identify any alternative equipment or practices that would conserve water
What incentives are available?
Denver Water offers a long list of incentives for installation of efficient equipment, and conservation of water
7. 7. Lighting Audit
What is it?
An evaluation by an engineering firm of all of the facilities’ lighting and ballast systems
What will it do?
The evaluation will produce a plan to upgrade ballasts and lamps with high efficiency components, and develop a program for implementing cost saving measures like motion sensors and dimmers.
What incentives are available?
Multiple Xcel Energy rebates for equipment
8. 8. Utility Monitoring System Evaluation
What is it?
Assess the current Utility Monitoring System (if any) and identifies the feasibility of a stand alone system
What will it do?
A utility monitoring system allows real time monitoring of consumption and demand which can lead to savings
What incentives are available?
Xcel energy offers rebates for equipment and also savings
9. 9. Possible Cost Savings Projects
Renewable Energy Projects
Photovoltaic System
Solar Thermal System
Green Roof
10. 10. Photovoltaic System
What is it?
Semi-conductor material that produces electricity when exposed to sunlight.
What will it do?
A photovoltaic system produces electricity which you can use at your facility or sell any excess power back to Xcel Energy.
What incentives are available?
Xcel energy rebates, state and federal tax credits, accelerated depreciation, and Rebates from the Governor’s Energy Office
11. 11. Solar Thermal System

What is it?
 12. 12. Uses the suns energy to heat water for domestic or industrial use
 13. 13. What will it do?
 14. 14. The solar thermal water heating system will save money used to heat water
 15. 15. What incentives are available?
 16. 16. Xcel energy rebates, state and federal tax credits, accelerated depreciation, and Rebates from the Governor’s Energy Office

Green Roof

What is it?
 17. 17. Drought tolerate plants installed on the roof in a removable grid
 18. 18. What will it do?
 19. 19. The green roof will reduce heating and cooling loads, and increase the longevity of roof membrane
 20. 20. What incentives are available?
 21. 21. Possible Xcel energy custom rebates, and state and federal tax credits

Why Project Management?
Why should I use a Project Manager? MTB Will:
Manage multiple contractors
Act as a single point of contact to the owner
Perform contracting and administration
Facilitate site activities
Oversee construction and study’s execution
Ensure safe execution
Review final reports
Monitor quality
Track rebates and incentives
Consider other scopes of work as follow up projects
