  2. 2. PREJUDICE <ul><li>Three Components </li></ul><ul><li>Cognitive (stereotype) </li></ul><ul><li>Affective (attitudinal) </li></ul><ul><li>Behavioural (discriminatory) </li></ul>
  3. 3. STEREOTYPES Stereotypes are a shared role schema relating to a particular identifiable social group An aid to rapid social judgement
  4. 4. <ul><li>They are an oversimplified & over generalised abstraction </li></ul><ul><li>People are characterised on highly visible characteristics e.g. </li></ul><ul><li>Age </li></ul><ul><li>Gender </li></ul><ul><li>Race </li></ul><ul><li>Attractiveness </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>All members of that category or social grouping are attributed with possessing the same characteristics </li></ul><ul><li>Any individual perceived to belong to that category is attributed with possessing those stereotypic characteristics </li></ul>
