SC2 Workshop 2: Towards an e-Infrastructure Roadmap for Open Science in Agriculture

  1. 1. O. Hologne/ eROSA “Towards an e-infrastructure Roadmap for Open Science in Agriculture” e-ROSA Odile Hologne, INRA, head of the department of scientific information
  2. 2. O. Hologne/ eROSA eROSA in brief  Coordination and support action (infrasupp 3 2016)  18 months  starts january 2017  Consortium : INRA (FR), WUR Alterra (NL), Agroknow (GR)  Main ideas : build a roadmap, openly, bottom up, make the link  Support small-size foresight roadmaps for research and education communities and operators of e-infrastructure services.  Identification of potential collaboration from stakeholders across different geographic areas and scientific domains.
  3. 3. O. Hologne/ eROSA Framework E-infrastructure Open science, EOSC and Agriculture
  4. 4. O. Hologne/ eROSA E-infrastructure definition  e-Infrastructure refers to a combination of digital technologies (hardware and software), resources (data, services, digital libraries), communications (protocols, access rights and networks), and the people and organisational structures needed to manage them.  They are keys in future development of research infrastructures, as activities go increasingly "online" and produce vast amounts of data and are at the heart of the Digital Agenda of the European Commission to support Open Science and the link between researchers, citizens or private companies.
  5. 5. O. Hologne/ eROSA Open Science https://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/en/open-science
  6. 6. O. Hologne/ eROSA Open Science and Agriculture https://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/en/open-science - From small data to big and smart data - Open research data - Data sharing for scientific purpose - Research transparency (hot topics) - Knowledge access for the developping countries - Involve farmers, students or teachers in scientific processes : citizen science for agriculture - Strong link with the societal challenges - Data driven agricultural sciences - Multidisciplinary and multiscale approaches - Predictive biology
  7. 7. Static View on Year 2020 (over-simplification) European Data Infrastructure European Open Science Cloud Scientific Users Industry Public Sector • Augusto BURGUEÑO ARJONA • Head of Unit e-Infrastructure – DG CNECT - European Commission

  11. 11. O. Hologne/ eROSA The need for a roadmap A puzzle of different component Need to build a share vision No real research infrastructure in agri-food (ESFRI in environment, genomics, earth observation …)
  12. 12. O. Hologne/ eROSA Objectives Community building : researchers, education and practitioners ; international ; agricultural sciences Improve the knowledge of the landscape : infra/e-infra, projects, policies … relevant for an « e-infra for open science in agriculture » Roadmap : conception, advocacy
  13. 13. O. Hologne/ eROSA Methodology, Work packages
  14. 14. O. Hologne/ eROSA Committees  Policy committee  Need of cross approaches : • #DG : Agri, RTD, CNCT, …. • others funders  International advisory board
