  4. 4. This year-long projectreformatted the annualbusiness plan competition tofocus squarely on socialenterprise: for-profitventures dedicated to socialgood. Three student leaders(myself included) set theguidelines, arranged theevent and launched themarketing campaign.

  6. 6. 2000-2003• Downers GroveReporter• Liberty Suburban News• Plainfield EnterpriseOut of college, I knew Iwanted to write. So Iwent to work for thelocal paper, transferredto a different paper aftera buyout, then kept onwriting for yet anotherpaper.I spent my days in city councilmeetings, police stations, schoolboard functions and courtrooms. Itwas a ground-level view of how theworld runs, and a good place topractice relationship-building skills.
  7. 7. 2003-2009Journalism was fun, but not mypassion. So I left to followanother interest: Music. InDecember 2003 I joined GuitarCenter as a sales associate. Iwas promoted to departmentmanager, then assistantmanager. In 2006 I changedlocations and continued on inpure sales for three more years.Guitar Center is based on an old-stylerelationship oriented sales strategy. As aresult, sales associates end up workingwith marketing, inventory, and supplychain issues. As a manager, I also dealtwith basic HR issues like hiring andscheduling. I went there to learn aboutthe music industry, and ended uplearning how to run a business.
  8. 8. 2009-2010I led 4 operations as a crewleader, running teams of 5-20 people. We completed ourtasks in a fraction of theexpected time, despite thechallenges of working in ahigh density area where mostpeople live behind lockedgates.As a recruiter, Iadministered the CensusExam to hundreds ofapplicants. I was thenchosen as part of anelite team sent to helpout another district thatwas having trouble fillingquotas.
  9. 9. 2011-PRESENTAfter all that, I had managementexperience from the Census,relationship skills from the papers anda top-down business view from GuitarCenter. It was time to put that together in agraduate degree, focusing onEntrepreneurship and Marketing.But mostly I focused onfinishing school whileraising this oneIn school I had an internship atPlumtree, and I wrotemarketing plans for real worldclients Gibson’sSteakhouse and TanzanianChildren’s FundAnd then these two
  10. 10. NEXT STEPSNow that school is over, it’s timeto move in a new direction.I’m focused on brand management and newproduct development, using therelationship, management andbusiness skills I’ve developed over acareer.
