Ben Turner            Unit 54 – Digital Graphics for Print-Based Media                25/1/13
                          (Client Proposal for the JBL Music Band)

Profile of the band:
JBL band comprises of age range between 20 to 50 years old with 3 members (1 Drum Bass,
1 Pianist and 1 Guitarist) who are Jane, Ben and Ellen. They have been together for a few
years now. They play pop/rock music who are inspired by the likes of Queen, Michael
Jackson and Madness etc.

JBL are about to release a new CD called `extravaganza` and are about to go on tour and we
have to produce promotional posters, CD Artwork, Tour Posters, Logo and Magazine
Advertising in ready for me to start the tour. Tickets are now available at all major ticket
outlets.

Target Audience:
Because of the type of music that is representative of JBL the target audience is more likely
to be between 18 to 40 year olds who are interested in seeing them in nightclubs/bars. We
need to produce an attractive merchandising line in order to attract new fans as well as the
existing fans ensuring that our logo is the main feature on all of the products.

Timing of Graphics/Schedule:
Is to do with the timing of the release of the CD and concerts that are available towards
people who watch the JBL band. The schedule will include precise deadlines for the
following pre-production, production and post-production milestones. This will be
completed in accordance to the action plan. (See action plan for detail agenda)

The illustrations (graphics) used for the JBL band are a reflection on the band itself and
clearly shows the direction the music is going in. Must be completed by 1/3/13.

Where I obtained the ideas for graphics?
I will create the graphics myself and the logo was inspired by “Deadmaus 5”. I chose the
colour scheme because it gave me an idea as to how others bands have kept a consistent
theme throughout their graphics and eventually becoming a marketable brand. A recurring
theme is the coloured gradient waves which reflect the colours of the main band logo. This
colours are (J) Pink, (B) Dark-Blue, (L) Light-Blue and the (!) Green is an additional emphasis
on the JBL band.

Format of Graphics:
We have chosen to use TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files for our graphics as they are
uncompressed and can be used in Medium to High resolution (300 dpi). Because of the level
of quality in the graphics we have chosen to use printers using CMYK (Cyan, Magneta,
Yellow and Black) cartridges to produce better quality images, combined with the high
graphics definition the overall end product should be of quality and exactly what we need.
The graphics will be made for the largest publicity material so no quality will be lost.

Type of image:
I have used simple design because it is very colourful but simplistic in itself so potential
consumers see a simple and memorable image that they will associate with the JBL band.
The design is simply the band logo reproduced on all material to ensure recognition by all
consumers. There is also a simple recurring graphic of curved gradient waves reflecting the
colours of the logo and reproduced on the album cover, tour poster and magazine advert.
This was inspired by recent material from Deadmaus 5 and Gorillaz.

Copyright issues:
Is dealt with by signing a contract in order to verify who owns what and the percentage that
others will receive. Any artwork that is produced is normally distributed to the band and the
ownership of copyright will remain with them instead of the artist. No laws of copyright will
be broken or infringed upon during the production of the artwork for the JBL band and
there are strict rules put into place to make sure that the artwork is not leaked onto the
internet.

Legal, Ethical and Moral Issues:
Whilst the duration of the production of the artwork for the JBL band no laws will be broken
where there will be rules and guidelines set up to ensure that everything is done legally and
correctly. No Ethical codes and conventions will be broken as well in which the artwork is
checked so that is does not complicate or offend people towards the opposite gender,
colour or sexual orientation. Guidelines are used for a moral stance in order to halt any
debatable artwork that could include murder, violence or gore which may harm young
children or people for the target audience of the JBL band.

Guidelines are used for a moral stance in order to halt any debatable artwork that could include murder, violence or gore which may harm young children or people for the target audience of the JBL band.
