In every society, women are guardians, creators and consumers of culture, but they still face barriers that prevent them from playing an equal role in the cultural sphere. These varied publications demonstrate the profound influence of women in all aspects of culture. From innovative artists, to curators and avant-garde creators, these stories allow us to appreciate the diverse contributions of women to our cultural heritage.
#MuseumWeek’s 2017 edition sought to shine a light on the crucial role that women play in the cultural sphere. Through this edition #MuseumWeek honoured pioneering and infinitely inspiring women who have caused sensation, overstepped the limits of art, and who have contributed to building the world in which we live.
Through seven themed-hashtags, 2017’s edition encompassed the diversity of women’s impact in culture. With nearly 2 million publications shared by museums worldwide, our goal was to select the most creative and original pieces per continent. You can imagine that this was no easy task!
