  1. 1. Research into our Chosen Genre: Pop/R’n’B Our genre is mainly pop and we decided to do this genre because we are devising a promotional music video for a girl band. However, due to the song that we chose ‘Scandalous’ by Mis Teeq, we chose to include the R’n’B genre also.

Pop Genre… <ul><li>Pop music can be described as ‘ commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple songs.’ </li></ul><ul><li>In the 1980’s the publicity of pop music had been significantly affected as music channels such as ‘MTV’ began to rise. This at the time, favoured pop artists such as: Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince. </li></ul><ul><li>There are many artists nowadays that have had a great impact on the pop genre (they are shown on the next page). </li></ul>
  3. 4. R‘n’B genre <ul><li>R‘n’B is the abbreviation for rhythm and blues. The genre of popular African American music originated in the 1940’s. </li></ul><ul><li>R’n’B music origins from genres such as jazz, gospel and blues. </li></ul><ul><li>In the 1980s, a newer style of R&B developed, which became known as ‘contemporary R&B’. </li></ul>

Continued…. <ul><li>During the mid 1990s, artists such as Michael Jackson, R Kelly, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Aaliyah, TLC, SWV and Boyz II Men brought contemporary R’n’B to the mainstream. </li></ul><ul><li>R&B began to focus more on solo artists rather than groups as the 2000s progressed. According to Billboard magazine, the most commercially successful acts of the decade included Usher, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Rihanna. </li></ul><ul><li>There are many influential R&B artists of the 21 st century and they are shown on the next page. </li></ul>
