Last night, Jorge Morán, CEO of Sovereign and country head ofSantander in the US, and Fernando Alonso, F1 driver for Scuderia Ferrari, rang the WallStreet closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange, in an act commemorating those affectedby hurricane Sandy.Sovereign, Banco Santander’s US subsidiary, donated USD 250,000 to the American RedCross for people affected by the hurricane. During the ceremony, Morán handed over a checkto Josh Lockwood, the NGO’s CEO for the greater New York area.The bank will also match donations made by team members and customers at Santander-Sovereign branches, up to USD 500,000.During the weekend of the F1 Grand Prix in Austin (Texas), Ferrari North America auctionedoff a F12 Berlinetta to raise funds for the American Red Cross’ hurricane relief efforts.Santander also announced that one of Fernando Alonso’s helmets, signed by the driver, willbe auctioned.
