  3. 3. What is CRS??• A computer reservations system or centralreservation system(CRS) isa computerized system used to store andretrieve information and conduct transactionsrelated to air travel.• CRS were later extended for the use of travelagencies.

GDS• Major CRS operations that book and sell ticketsfor multiple airlines are known as globaldistribution systems (GDS).• The airline industry created the first GDS in the1960s as a way to keep track of flight schedules,availability, and prices.• By the mid 1970s,SABRE (owned by AmericanAirline) and Apollo (United) began installing theirpropriety internal reservations systems in travelagencies.
  5. 5. • Airlines have divested most of their directholdings to dedicated GDS companies, whomake their systems accessible to consumersthrough Internet gateways.• GDS allow users to book hotel, rental cars,airlines tickets as well as cruise line.
