Grade S1Job DutiesEntry level student worker. Performs routine tasks withminimal responsibility in a well-supervised setting.Minimum QualificationsNo previous experience or training is required. Ability to learnand perform assigned work; ability to work cooperatively withfaculty, staff and other students.NotesMay require ability to successfully interact with public.
Grade S2Job DutiesSecond level of student employee. More difficult tasksassigned and some judgment/decision making required. Worksindependently with limited supervision.Minimum QualificationsLittle or moderate experience. Technical knowledge required,or previous training and experience is needed.NotesSpecial instruction may be necessary for some aspects ofthese positions.
Grade S3Job DutiesSenior level student employee performing work withspecialized skills. Uses independent judgment /decision makingabilities; works with little or no direct supervision. May involvesupervision, tutoring, or training of individuals or small groupsperforming routine functions.Minimum QualificationsPrevious work experience at a lower level within the samedepartment or functional area is required. Moderate tosubstantial experience, technical knowledge, or previoustraining or certification is required.
Grade S4Job DutiesHighest level student employee. May manage research, analysis,publication, instruction or other special projects or activities of significantscope. May supervise larger groups of student staff or moresenior/technical student staff including assigning and reviewing work.Minimum QualificationsPrevious work experience at a lower level within the same department orfunctional area is required. Requires substantial experience, advancedtechnical knowledge as well as previous training or certification.NotesHigh level of competency or fluency with specialized skills. Not all jobs willhave a S4 level.
Placement in Compensation ScheduleStudent employees should be placed withinthe grade for their job consideringdepartment budget, employee qualificationsand work experience and compensationlevel of existing student staff in thedepartment.Student employees should not earn morethan non-student employees doing similarwork.
