  2. 2. HISTORY OF VOLLEYBALL <ul><li>The game of volleyball, was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan, after the invention of basketball by only 4 years. </li></ul><ul><li>Morgan graduated from Springfield College of the YMCA </li></ul><ul><li>Designed the game to be a combination of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. </li></ul><ul><li>The first volleyball was actually a tennis net, it was 6’6” high. </li></ul>
  3. 3. About it <ul><li>Is a Olympic team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. </li></ul><ul><li>Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other teams court under organized rules. </li></ul><ul><li>The complete rules are extensive. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Rules <ul><li>A player on one of the teams begins a ‘rally’ by serving the ball from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving teams court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. They may touch the ball as many as three times. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Positions <ul><li>Setter- over/under had pass over the net from the back line. </li></ul><ul><li>Hitter- you can do this in the back and front row. </li></ul><ul><li>Blocker- tries to keep the ball from coming over the net. </li></ul><ul><li>Setter- pumps the ball on their fingertips to the hitter so the they can hit it. </li></ul><ul><li>Libero-this player can replace any back row player, (but they have to wear a completely different color jersey) </li></ul>
  6. 6. Why Play Volleyball <ul><li>Is a great game to build character. </li></ul><ul><li>People who learn how to play and excel in volleyball can also develop habits and attitudes. </li></ul><ul><li>Great way to build friendships </li></ul>
