In the context of BA’s as agents of change, it is essential that there is clear line of sight between the organisation’s strategy and the change to be introduced by the project. The benefit(s) are the descriptions of what measurable improvement will be introduced by a particular change initiative.

This tool helps identify (and track) traceability from strategy all the way through to the change delivered by a specific project.

BSG (UK) Benefits pyramid version 1

  1. 1. Benefits traceability Executing change is easier when there is clarity in the links between benefits & project outcomes. Upward: Linking the project’s context via benefits to the organisation strategy to ensure alignment Downward: Channelling the vision to the implementation via measurable benefitsThis approach wasinspired by SimonSinek’s ‘goldencircle’ concept in Strategyhis book Start withWhy. The intention here is not to determine a new strategy but to simply state the relevant aspect’s of the organisation’s strategic ambition. Benefits • What are the strategic/ WHY operational gains? • How can these returns be measured? Changes • What needs to Current: alter to realise the benefits? • How do we reduce Desired: resistance and ensure buy-in? HOW Project Objectives A clear statement on the project’s goal after considerations on the above elements Enablers • What are the WHAT specific things that need to be provided e.g. Policies, Process Changes, IT system? www.bsgdelivers.com // @bsguk
