  5. 5. Australia is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations
  6. 6. There are 53 members in the Commonwealth of Nations. We are united by history and our shared values.
  7. 7. What symbols can you see on the Australian flag ?
  8. 8. The Union Jack reminds us of our history as a British colony. The large star is called the Commonwealth Star. The Southern Cross is easily seen in the night sky from Australia.
  9. 9. In February, 1952, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II.

  12. 12. On June 11th, we recognize her birthday (although her real birthday is 21st April!)
  13. 13. Her Majesty's birthday is celebrated during summer in the northern hemisphere so that the outdoor weather is suitable for celebrations and ceremonies.
  14. 14. The Queen's Birthday Honours are awarded to Australian citizens for actions or deeds that benefit our nation.
