  1. 1. DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING GLOBAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY JAIPUR February 2017 SMART METER A Seminar On Submitted by AYUSH JAIN (13EGJEE037) Supervised by DR.KAILASH CHAND SHARMA ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
  2. 2.  Introduction  Smart meter  India’s electricity needs  Smart metering environment  Two way interaction system  Power management app  Side effects of smart meter  Conclusion  References 2 Presentation Outlines
  3. 3. 3 Introduction  The present system of energy metering as well as billing in India uses electromechanical and somewhere digital energy meter.  It consumes more time and labour.  One of the prime reasons is the traditional billing system which is inaccurate.  Many times slow, costly, and lack in flexibility as well as reliability.  Today accuracy in electricity billing is highly recommended.  The smart energy meter gives real power consumption as well as accurate billing.  It provides real time monitoring of electricity uses  It is less time consuming and cost effective.

  9. 9. 9 SMART METERS  Smart meter measuring the electricity and remotely control the supply and cut off when necessary it was called automated meter reading(AMR).AMR is a one way communication and upgrade into two way communication “AMI” technology.  “AMR” is older technology only collects data from electrical meter to the utility. but “AMI” is collects the data meter and consumer both. Fig:5-AMR meter Fig:6-AMI meter
  10. 10. 10 Smart Metering Process  Various technology and Design for Smart Metering Process  Common process are in Practice for data collection  Smart meter gathers data locally & transfer via a local area network to a colletion point  Data collected at utility is used for a number of business purpose such as billing, Service monitoring ,planning.
