GeoNetwork metadata entry templates

  1. 1. GeoNetwork Metadata Entry Templates In Use At Geoscience Australia
  2. 2. Introduction • GA creates ISO 19115 metadata for all of its published spatial data web services • Strict requirements have been established at GA for how service metadata are structured within ISO 19115 • Metadata entry templates are invaluable in streamlining metadata creation and assisting metadata authors produce consistent and compliant metadata • Templating of the GeoNetwork metadata entry forms can be considered at two levels: • Profile templates • Editors templates
  3. 3. Profile templates • Profile templates allow for subsets of ISO 19115 elements, grouped into customised tabs that suit a particular usage pattern of the ISO 19115 standard, e.g. GA’s service metadata: • Hides complexity of ISO 19115 and greatly simplifies usage of the metadata entry forms • Profile templates are configured declaratively within the GeoNetwork application space, requiring developer capabilities and write access to the application server file system.
  4. 4. Editors Templates • Editors templates work within the profile templates • Allows pre-population of repetitive text and provides instructional text to guide the metadata authors. E.g. GA’s WMS template:
  5. 5. Editors Templates (cont.) • Editors templates are o created as normal metadata records within the profile template of choice o populated with boilerplate and instructional text as required o saved as a template record for reuse • Any user with metadata creation privileges can create and use editors templates, although GA provides corporately generated templates for common use.
  6. 6. Editors Templates (cont.) • Seven templates have been created for service metadata, covering the predominant spatial service types used at GA:
