Many of these challenges are due toincomplete site evaluations, executing the installation of CPE andkeeping labor cost down. Considerations may include:• Is my customer’s site install ready?• How do I deploy the CPE at the customersite while staying cost effective?• Is the products I am deploying simple totroubleshoot and are all the componentsintegrated with each other?• How do I maintain and scale to facilitategrowing demand and customer servicerequests?• How can I ensure a consistent userexperience?

Deployment PlanningDeployment planning can be greatly simplified by first selecting the properequipment that is easy to deploy for engineers and is highly integrated with itsperipherals such as Switchvox and Digium phones. A proper pre-install planand deployment strategy can simplify the rest. Pre-Install Planning Guidelines: • Determine what features your customer utilizes or would utilize day to day. • Use certified and tested hardware that is compatible with your IP PBX. Standardized on firmware versions. • Capture extension requirements (Phone types, groups, positions, emails, etc). • Document the network layout (WAN and LAN) • Setup SIP trunks if used with a commonly used provider • Utilize proper education on the product of choice (Such as Switchvox dSSE training) • Understand licensing requirements
  6. 6. Methods and Tools for planningThrough some common sense best practices and publicly available tools, anIP-PBX install can be completed without overly complicating this task for theengineer. In addition improving the overall experience for the end customer byshowcasing proper organization of their requirements. • Create System Templates. Most customers have common settings between them. • Utilize extension templates and create common setups for positions such as Sales, Support, Accounting etc. (Excel is your friend) • Use a Project software tools, free ones are available such as Dotproject, to map out your progress. • Create and maintain checklists for engineers. • Pre-configure equipment before going on site and test – Use Automation. • Build out a lab with demo gear to replicate customer requirements before deployments.
