Volume level restore fails with error transient snapshot copy is not supported

  1. 1. Volume level restore fails with error 'transient Snapshot copy is not supported'. Error: Snapshot copy "snapmirror.a493e3a6-2055-11e7-b1a8-00a098a42123_1101666950002.YYYY-MM- DD_162400" is transient. Using a transient Snapshot copy is not supported by this operation. Information: When we do volume level restores, ONTAP uses Snapmirror in the background, and it’s a complete block for block restore from the 'common base snapshot'. Applicable to: ONTAP & AltaVault restores. Cause: It's a temporary snapshot, created during SnapVault (XDP) transfer to destination where deduplication is enabled. This snapshot is invalid. Solution: Ensure the snapshot is a valid Snapmirror base snapshot without alpha-numeric characters in it. Handy-info: For volume level restore, make sure the destination volume is created with 'DP' property, and not the normal read/write. ashwinwriter@gmail.com May, 2019
