Job analysis: job analysis is a way of determining the information relating to the nature of a particular job. It is more concerned with collecting data about the particular position in the organization and then analysis of that data. It then gives a clear insight of the job in terms of responsibilities, skills, knowledge and other qualities. The data to be collected also allows the management to clearly identify the job and the nature of job. It determines what are the various operation involved in doing the job and what is this jobs position and authority in relation to other jobs. This information tells the type of employee required for the performance of this job. With all these information in mind, one can easily prepare a job description and job specification. Skill inventory: Synonymous to manpower inventory, it involves counting of the number of individuals in the organization and taking down their characteristics. It is an inventory record of intangible items such as human resource.

The data is classified under heads of names of personnel, facts about employees, systematic and detailed appraisal of them and a detailed study of those individual who exhibit potential for development. Personnel forecasting: It is a process by which the future manpower requirements are determined.
