How Many Tons of Food Can Toronto Grow on roofs?
Feed Your City Organization launched their nation ‐ wide program
on September 28th at Queens Park. The Seed to Feed Your City initiative
creates Heritage Seed Banks on School Properties.
We educate children on how to plant and nurture the seed that grow to
feed us all. This is a necessary campaign that teaches children the first
fine Art of Horticulture. Our eco‐based curriculum allows for children to
earn Horticultural Arts badges by connecting them back to nature. It’s
like Horticultural Agricultural Girl Guides and Boys Scouts.
The mission is to plant and nurture these “Seeds to Feed” in cities
through rooftop gardening, school‐yard farming, and cultivation of
green spaces to produce millions of seeds and help stop the extinction of
our vegetable and medicine plant varieties.

Toronto that could immediately be retrofitted to grow 2 lbs of food per
That is 1,000,000,000 BILLION LBS OF FOOD.
Imagine how MUCH CO2 Gas emissions we would be saving??????
Starting January 30, 2010 The City of Toronto will mandate that all new
building permits must have a green roof.
So how many lbs of food can we grow with all these roofs?

1 Seed /Plant = 1 meal
1 meal = Has Approx. 100 seeds

10,000 seeds grow to be 100,000lbs of food or 1,000,000 seeds
Our charitable model:
1 Dollar invested means one seed will be germinated in a nursery. This
works out to be .008 cents per day for a child to care 120 days for a
tomato seed to grow to feed. There are 3.3 million children in Ontario.
Feed Your City Organization, is weeks away from receiving charitable
