2. Architectural designing of the deaf cultural complex in
Tehran, an educational appliedarts approach.
Abstract
Music, news, individual or collective dialogues, etc. make communication possible
for any human being by transferring information through hearing the voices. In
other words, human being expands his/her repository of information and
vocabulary by hearing things. As a result, a person who is not able to receive this
information via hearing will enjoy very smaller size of vocabulary and data. That is
why the deaf people are facing many problems in their social interactions and the
quality of their communications is considered to be low. On the other hand,
different educational system for deaf students, the absence of mutual programs
between deaf and non-deaf students, lack of knowledge about deaf population in
society, and inability in proper communication and mutual understanding have
resulted in the deaf population's social isolation, and therefore, their occupational
and psychological insecurity in Iran. In this regard, an educational cultural
complex will play a great role in increasing mutual understanding between the
societiesof deaf and non-deaf populations and overcoming some of sociocultural
shortcomings, they are facing. To design and build such an educational- cultural
complex will set the scene for the society members especially authorities and
public and private sectors to become aware of the deaf population's potentials.
Experience has proved that the deaf are great inacquiring applied arts and
artifacts. Along with teaching those skills, this complex can also presenttheir
3. innovations and achievements by carrying out different programs
andcompetitions and establishing clubs. This will create many new job
opportunities for deaf people, and as a result, will increase their social mobility
and psycho-occupational security by somehow overcomingtheir problems
regarding social isolation and seclusion.
