Articles (A, An, & The) <ul><li>We are not writing our courseware for Tarzan. </li></ul><ul><li>Don’t exclude articles in your procedures. </li></ul><ul><li>Wrong: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Install WLT and VIM on Abrams adapter and secure WLT with lanyard around Abrams adapter. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Right: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Install the WLT and the VIM on the Abrams adapter and secure the WLT with the lanyard around the Abrams adapter. </li></ul></ul>
  6. 7. Spaces After Sentences <ul><li>Put only one space after sentences & colons…not two. (Your typing teacher was wrong.) </li></ul><ul><li>The two-space thing was never a standard in publishing, just a temporary guideline to combat the limitations of fixed-width typewriters. </li></ul><ul><li>The reasoning for including two spaces evaporated in the ‘80s. Please move on. </li></ul>

Be Kind to Your Keyboard <ul><li>Never tell people to “hit,” “strike,” or “tap” a key. </li></ul><ul><li>The only verb you should use is “ press .” </li></ul><ul><li>Wrong: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Enter your password and hit the Enter key. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Right: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Enter your password and press the Enter key. </li></ul></ul>
  8. 9. Add a Blank Page to Courseware <ul><li>Looks bad if the back page has text on it. </li></ul><ul><li>Especially important if your document has an even number of pages. </li></ul><ul><li>Add a blank page (no text, images, header, or footer) to the end of the course. </li></ul>
