A round of applause for the ladies yagna dhruva quiz round3

  1. 1. A Round of applause for the ladies
  2. 2. 1. Who is this or who is this an inspiration for? • During the late 1880s, for the second time, Afghanistan was occupied by British-Indian forces attempting to colonise the area and annex it with what was then British India (now Pakistan and India). The main garrison of the British was located in Kandahar, which is the closest city to the town of Maiwand. • When the Afghan army was losing morale, despite their superior numbers, X took the Afghan flag and shouted--- “Young love! If you do not fall in the battle of Maiwand,By God, someone is saving you as a symbol of shame!” • But then X was herself struck down and killed by British troops. However, her words had spurred on her countrymen to victory.
  3. 3. 2.Notable lawyer. Name her. • Her famous clients include: • Canadian Al Jazeera English journalist Mohamed Fahmy. • Mohamed Nasheed, former President of the Maldives • Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks • Yulia Tymoshenko, former Pm of Ukraine. • Enron
  4. 4. 3. Which tribe? • The X narrate the story of Amrita Devi, a X woman who, along with more than 363 other Xs, died saving the Khejarli trees. Nearly two centuries back, Maharajah Abhay Singh of Jodhpur required wood for the construction of his new palace. So the king sent his soldiers to cut trees in the nearby region of Khejarli, where the village is filled with the large number of trees. But when Amrita Devi and local villagers came to know about it, they opposed the king's men. The feudal party told her that if she wanted the trees to be spared, she would have to give them money as a bribe. She refused to acknowledge this demand and told them that she would consider it as an act of insult to her religious faith and would rather give away her life to save the green trees. This is still remembered as the great Khejarli sacrifice. Some Xs who were killed protecting the trees were buried in Khejerli village near Jodhpur.
  5. 5. 4.Who is this? • Ms X reveals that she and Mr Vijay Mallya are, in fact, childhood friends and were neighbours on what is now known as Vittal Mallya Road. Both the friends followed in the footsteps of their fathers. • While Mr Mallya got involved in his father's liquor business, Ms X ended up becoming a Master Brewer, just like her father, who was the Managing Director and Master Brewer for UB. • The young Vijay, who is a couple of years younger than her, too, pleaded with his father, but Mallya senior was adamant because he felt that she would have a tough time dealing with the all-male workforce. • She had a very tough time raising enough money for the company she founded but finally when she did, her first 2 recruits were a Tractor mechanic and his assistant along with a friend who took a sabbatical from her earlier office to work with her out of pity.
  6. 6. 5. • “I used to live in a hostel, and my friends and I decided it was time to get a job. I ended up doing fairly well in the group discussions and interview, too. I joined the company as a probationary officer. It was my first job, and it will be my last, too.” • When she was posted as a General Manager in Lucknow, she was very much distraught as she could not find a suitable school for her son. She gave in her resignation letter the very next day, but her former boss told her that it was not a good idea. • In 2015 , she was the 30th most powerful woman in th world.
