We’re here to discuss this discrepancy… We’re raised to believe that in America, if you work hard, you can have the American dream… but for many people, the American dream is just out of reach, and even more so for those who are starting out at a disadvantage. Homelessness effects [X number of] people in New Mexico; [X number] of those are children. Homelessness presents a particular set of problems for children. Developmental delay, low self-esteem, lack of security and stability… these are among the many problems that face homeless children.
Homelessness not only presents personal and pragmatic problems to individuals, but these problems extend to society as a whole.What is the value of a human being?Is worth measured by wealth?What is the obligation of the community? What is the obligation of the individual?What is the impact of homelessness on New Mexico’s economy?These are among the ethical dilemas that homelessness presents to all of us.
