The Sixth Edition of Introduction to Hospitality focuses on
hospitality operations while offering a broad, comprehensive
foundation of current knowledge about the world’s largest
industry. Throughout, author John R. Walker invites students
to share this industry’s unique enthusiasm and passion. The
text is organized into five sections: the hospitality industry
and tourism; lodging; restaurants, managed services, and
beverages; recreation, theme parks, clubs, and gaming
entertainment; and assemblies and event management.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Saikat

Frankfinn Institute of Airhostess Training, Kolkata, for
providing me enough information and guidance to
complete this assignment on Hospitality. Last but not the
least, I am very much grateful to avail myself this

HISTORY OF HOLIDAY INN GROUP
• The Holiday Inn Group of hotel was founded in 1952 in
Memphis, Tennessee by Kemmon Wilson. Holiday inn group is
one of the world’s largest hotel chains with 434,357 bedrooms
and 3,414 hotels globally. There are over 100 million guest
nights each year globally. It is a multinational upscale mid-
priced brand of hotels, formerly an economy motel chain,
forming part of British-based inter-continental hotels group
• Wilson partnered with Wallace E.Johnson to build additional
motels on the roads entering Memphis. Holiday inn’s corporate
headquarters was in a converted plumbing shed owned by
Johnson. In 1953, the company built its next three hotels which,
along with their first hotel built in 1952, covered each approach
to Memphis. The second motel was built on highway 51 north
and another on U.S. 61, on the occasion of Johnson’s death.

HISTORY OF THE LALITGROUP

I have learnt a lot from Hospitality classes and I am sure
that it will help me in my present and future life. Lack of a
good personality and aspiring too high to get a job in any
kind of industry is a futile one. So, once again I want to
thank our honourable faculty Mr. Saikat Munshi for helping
me to earn the requisite knowledge in the sector of
Hospitality and other allied matters.
