Hair Removal
Just like women, men need or want to remove body hair
for various reasons. The way men choose to get rid of
their unwanted hair will depend on personal choice and
circumstances. Shaving is obviously the most convenient
and effective way to remove facial hair. However, for when
it comes to body hair, waxing and laser treatments are
recommended. Men have much coarser hair than women,
therefore methods that will eliminate or cease re-growth are
best suited to them. Most popular areas for men to treat are
the dreaded monobrow, as well as hair growth on the back,
the back of the neck, nostrils, ears and earlobes.
Skin care
Men’s skin is susceptible to many of the same problems as
women’s and should be looked after with at least a basic

worse, bald are two things that strike terror into even the
least metrosexual of men. If you notice grey hair it’s a good
idea to dye it rather than pluck it out. If you are losing hair,
get a shorter haircut to make it look less conspicuous.

QMy skin is always getting burns
and nicks from shaving. What’s
the best way to stop that happening?

AOnly apply the pressure you
need when shaving. Don’t press
too hard. Use cold water rather than
warm when removing the cream.
Dry your face well and use a lotion
to help soothe your skin at the end.
A blunt blade is the most common
cause of nicks when shaving. Make
sure you always use a sharp blade
even if it means changing it once a
week, although this can prove to be
an expensive business. Try preserving
the life span of your blades by
cleaning them thoroughly after each
shave then dipping them in a little
mineral oil and rinsing it off. The oil
mitigates the process that dulls the
edges. Using an electric shaver is
another alternative and is great if you
suffer blemishes.
QI have good hygiene practice,
wearing deodorant every day
and showering often but I still have
BO. What can I do to get rid of it?

AHormones will generally cause
men to have stronger body odour
than women, although diet can also
contribute. Men tend to sweat more
excessively, particularly if they do
very physical work. It can be a very
embarrassing problem and occurs
more often in the warmer months.
A large percentage of BO comes
from the armpits, so try trimming
the hair in that area to discourage
the bacteria that causes BO. Wear
light colours and cotton clothes
will absorb less heat, keeping you
feeling cooler. Foot odour is another
embarrassing problem common in
men. You can help eliminate foot
odour by scrubbing your feet morning
and night, ensuring your feet are
completely dry before applying shoes,
using foot and shoe deodorisers and
wearing cotton socks.
