Trevor Manuel says
SA needs to get into
Management (NSUEM) in Siberia this October.
Professor Rippon attended the Russia Science Festival together with MANCOSA’s
Principal, Professor Yusuf Karodia and Professor Walter Simeoni, a member of the
Board of Advisors. While in Russia, they presented papers during the Open Lecture
session at the Science Festival; attended lectures and a MBA graduation at NSUEM;
undertook study tours to various companies and they took the opportunity to visit
important historical sites and enjoy the culture of Russia.
Professor Rippon, whose research interest is strategic community development,
earned the academic accolade after meeting set criteria including: domain knowledge;
experience in industry and academic expertise; extensive supervision of postgraduate
students; being an external examiner and the publication of a minimum of six articles
in accredited international journals.
Speaking on this milestone achievement, Professor Rippon said: “Firstly the
professorship is an acknowledgement of my time spent at MANCOSA which is one of
productivity around many activities. These activities include lecturing and workshops in
Africa; quality teaching; supervising postgraduate students; publications in
international journals and specifically a link with the BRICS nation, specifically Russia.”
Professor Rippon said that the professorship bestowed on him would not have been
possible had it not been for the support received by many colleagues at MANCOSA
who worked as a team.
The presentations by the three MANCOSA representatives covered international
cooperation with a focus on a BRICS foresight for nation integration; world scientific
trends in management and leadership Sciences; international educational centres;
university models in the BRICS countries; business as a science and art; and the
contribution of science to the African and South African economy.
A highlight for Professor Rippon was a visit to the Institute of Technology with its
‘Technopark’ - a majestic, modern design park building where teaching, learning and
technology come together in exciting projects that are also on display at the Science
Festival Exhibition where students live out their creativity and exhibit their many
innovations.
While in Russia and Siberia, the academics had the opportunity to attend a BRICS
stakeholder forum meetings and collaboration meetings with representatives from the
Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management in Russia.
