  2. 2. The Sudden beginning. <br />People crowd the bank to withdraw as much of their savings. Few were successful.<br />
  3. 3. Lining up.<br />Men line up in a breadline to receive free food since they cannot afford bread.<br />
  4. 4. Trying to make a living.<br />This man is selling apples for only 5 cents hoping that he would make enough money to feed himself and his family.<br />
  5. 5. Meanwhile, on the other side of the nation:<br />
  6. 6. The storm rising<br />A dust cloud formed from a decade of bad farming of the soil approaches a small town ready to coat it in dust.<br />
  7. 7. The aftermath.<br />A Kansas farm shortly after a dust storm came through.<br />
  8. 8. Road to the promise land?<br />A overloaded truck traveling to California where there could be jobs available.<br />
  9. 9. A promise<br />A man stares at a sign that promises work at an orange orchard but at what pay?<br />
  10. 10. At work<br />A group of men pick cotton from the field in which they would get paid based on how heavy their bag is.<br />
  11. 11. Shelter<br />A “Hooverville” in California where many migrant workers ended up staying due to them not having enough money.<br />
  12. 12. Many people protested the depression in many ways.<br />
  13. 13. The march<br />Unemployed workers marching in protest against the bad economy. <br />
  14. 14. Sit Down<br />World War 1 veterans stay in front of the capitol building in Washington D.C. in hopes of getting early bonus from the government that would help them in their living.<br />
  15. 15. One people, one voice.<br />People gather up in wall street to protest against the down economy. <br />
  16. 16. But even so, all protests ended the same way:<br />
  17. 17. Violence erupts<br />Farmers in Nebraska protesting against the foreclosure of their farms are dispersed by local authorities.<br />
  18. 18. Crowd control<br />Policemen try to break up a union strike that is protesting for equal workers rights.<br />
  19. 19. Flames<br />A Hooverville in flames after the Bonus army protests in Washington D.C. <br />
  20. 20. With the times around them getting harder and worse, the American people needed a new person to look up to for guidance:<br />
  21. 21. A New Deal<br />Newly elected president Franklin Roosevelt in his inaugural speech promises a “New Deal” to the American people to help them with the down economy.<br />
