  2. 2. Setting <ul><li>This story takes place in California 1973 in a small neighborhood with a bad family, and Dave’s school called Thomas Edison Elementary. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Dave Pelzer <ul><li>Dave had a very bad childhood. He was a little boy who lived in a house with an alcoholic mother. He had to sleep in the basement and eat left over food from breakfast and dinner. He went to school everyday with torn clothes and bruises all over himself. He had nowhere to go and no one to talk to before the teachers, counselors, and the police started wondering what was going on. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Catherine Pelzer-Mother <ul><li>She was Dave’s alcoholic mother. She would yell at him everyday. She was nice to her other kids but Dave. She would stab him when he didn’t do one little thing right. She called them “games” and she said she he had to make stories up for what happened to him if he told anyone what she was doing to him. She had no life but only to become and abusive mother. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Stephen Joseph-Dave’s Father <ul><li>Dave’s Father didn’t really know what was going on because him and Dave’s mother were separated when he was a baby. Catherine wouldn’t let Dave tell him anything that happened and he never got to see his own father until he was rescued. He helped Dave throughout the rest of his life his son left Catherine. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Plot 1- Dave’s Childhood <ul><li>In the beginning of the story, it starts out with a boy talking about his life and how bad he gets treated. He said the only way he can survive is dream about having a real family and people to love him. No one can help him because his mother said he can’t say anything otherwise she would hurt him really bad. But did he do that? No. Not after a while because he had to get out of his house so he wouldn’t get hurt ever again and move into a good home and have a real family. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Plot 2- Dave’s Problem’s <ul><li>Dave is starting to be abused even more than he used to be. He’s still scared to tell anyone what has happened to him because he knew the second he got home he would get hurt. As his teacher’s and his counselors are starting to worry even more he than tries to tell them what has happened, but he’s still so scared to get hurt . </li></ul>
  8. 8. Plot 3- Mother’s Alcoholic/ Abuse Problem <ul><li>Dave’s mother can’t control her anger. Every night she yells at Dave and beats him with anything she can find. She doesn’t want anyone to know because she would get in trouble for all of it. She can never go one day without abusing Dave or drink. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Plot 4-Dave Find’s A Family <ul><li>As soon as Dave say’s something's wrong with his mother, the police and counselors had to make sure of this. When she finally admitted to it the police told his mother that he may not be aloud in that house again with her. They then put him in a foster home. Throughout the rest of his childhood he’s been through a lot of foster care. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Theme- Dave gets out of his house and find’s a good family <ul><li>Finally, Dave’s father finds out about his mother abusing him. He finds Dave a home because he can’t take care of him himself so he thought he would put him in a foster home. Dave was really happy he got to wear decent clothes, he gets to sit at a really table with good food and he’s out of the house with his abusive mother and will never see her again. </li></ul>
