What was the Little Ice Age?<br />A period of cooling that occurred after the medieval warm period, lasting 500 years<br />Caused global temperature to drop four degrees cooler<br />Scientist suggest the causes of the Little Ice Age to be : orbital cycles, decreased solar activity, increased volcanic activity, altered ocean current flows, and inherent variability of global climate<br />Threatened human survival<br />
  3. 3. When did the Little Ice Age occur?<br />Started around the 13th century when a pack of ice began advancing southwards in the North Alantic<br />Ranged from the 13th century till the 19th century<br />
  4. 4. What effects did the Little Ice Age have on history?<br />Glaciers were believed to be possessed by the devil so priest were summoned to ask for God’ help<br />In 1607 – 1814 frost fairs were celebrated in England due to the rivers being frozen solid<br />Crops began to fail and the bubonic plague as well as famine took the lives of millions<br />The harsh weather was blamed on neighbors accused of being witches , and were burned at the stake<br />

More effects on History<br />Potatoes became the crop of choice<br />Vikings thought to be the best survivors were killed off<br />Weather depicted the outcome of certain wars such as: The battle against the Spanish Armada and the English or The battle of Trenton<br />In 1815 Mt. Tambora erupted sending ash 15 miles into the atmosphere resulting in the year without a summer<br />
