The kitchen can be a dangerous area for trips and falls. This can be made even worse if the person is carrying hot food or sharp objects. This article will examine the ways that you can minimize the danger of tripping or falling in the kitchen. We will look at non slip flooring, oil and grease on the floor and how to carry hot and breakable items safely. The purpose of this article is to learn how to avoid trips and falls in the kitchen.
Non slip flooring is essential in the kitchen. You should not use rugs or mats, even those with a rubber backing can be dangerous if tripped over. Just by stumbling over a mat while carrying a pan of hot oil you could end up in the casualty department of your local hospital. Oil and grease on the floor can cause a nasty fall. If you do have a oil or grease spillage sprinkle some flour over it and it will be absorbed by the flour. Then brush the flour up and clean the floor with soap and water and allow the floor to dry. When carrying hot and breakable items in the kitchen it is important to do so carefully so that accidents may be avoided. Never carry anything that is so big that it obscures you view of where you are putting your feet. Avoid having a split level kitchen or a step or change in levels that may cause you to lose your footing and slip over. Do not have kitchen swing doors as they obscure your view and make colliding with someone else entering or leaving the kitchen more likely.
