  1. 1. Topic- Comparsion between Rcc and steel Name – Varun Tudu Roll no – 13001320027 Department – Civil Engineering Subject-Design of steel structures
  2. 2. Reinforced Cement Concrete • Reinforced concrete cement has better compressive and tensile strength when compared to other building materials. RCC Buildings are more durable than other buildings. Reinforced concrete can be moulded into any shape before hardening of the mix. RCC buildings have a long life and low maintenance costs.
  3. 3. STEEL • Steel is the undisputed leader in civil engineering structural materials, and it is one of the two primary materials used in civil engineering constructions. The efficient use of resources, the cost-effectiveness, and the well-organized structural systems are all important components of a building. • Best Types of Steel Used in Construction Works • Plain steel wire for concrete reinforcement. • Epoxy-coated steel bars for welded deformed Steel. • Plain bars and rail steel deformed bars. • TMT steel bars. • Stainless Steel. • Low-alloy steel. • Axel steel. • Low carbon steel bars.
  4. 4. COMPARSION DIFFERNCE RCC STEEL MATERIAL The basic material used is reinforced cement concrete to take up the load Steel is the material used to take the load TENSILE STRENGTH In RC structures, the tensile strength of the concrete elements is less compared to steel structural elements. Steel structural elements have high tensile strength compared to RC structures Load Carrying capacity RC structures have low load- carrying capacity compared with steel structures. The steel structures have an appreciable load-carrying capacity. Construction cost Economical Costly Fire resistance The fire resistance of the concrete structure is high. The fire resistance of steel structure is less. Quality control It is tough to maintain quality through concrete construction. Better quality control can be obtained in steel structures. Repair and Maintenace Tough and Cost of maintence is high Easy and Cost of maintence is low.
  5. 5. • Concrete is a composite material of mortar and aggregates that works well in compression but is weak in tension. Concrete needs one material that can reinforce concrete to tackle the tension. It can be any material like aluminium, bamboo or steel. • We can solve the problem of the tensile strength of concrete by casting wet concrete around steel reinforcing bars. As soon as concrete hardens around the steel, it makes a new composite, called Reinforced Concrete. This reinforced concrete can handle both tension and compression. Steel is 100 times more tensile than concrete so that it can handle tensile forces. Although steel has 15 times more compressive strength than concrete, that makes structure expensive hence role in tackling compressive force is played by concrete. Importance
  6. 6. Conclusion • Steel concrete composite construction combines the compressive strength of concrete with the tensile strength of steel to evolve an effective and economic structural system. Such a specialized system of construction is gaining popularity as multifaceted design and construction technique. Apart from composite beam, slab and column, options like composite truss are also being explored in the field of composite construction.
