Flash Mob music video

Not thinking to document the process of this edit right away, I will be carrying on from where I am
now with a little intel into what has gone on so far.
Using the footage from a flash mob I had helped film last year which I probably should have already
edited by now, I can use the existing footage to work on my technical skills before I begin filming my
short.
Creating a music video, already everything has now been stitched together in the order that I want
it.
The main trouble I have had with this, is between the four
cameramen that were there, strangers would walk in front of
the cameras at times with a few odd shots being blurry and
wobbly. Getting there in the end now, all I have left to do is go
over itand add little transitions as such.
Something I am aiming to do, is add little bits onto the videos that I have seen used by other editors
before. Not sure how I am going to do this with it being a first, I am willing to give it a go and expand
my use of this software.
Another issue I ended up having at the start of the post-production, having access to Premier Pro
now from home, for some reason the application was very glitchy causing me to have to repeatedly
close the window every minute. Getting rid of what was done so far there, I have had to
redownload Davinci Resolve to edit this piece together.

Unsure of how to go about the opening sequence at first as
my first idea was to take the warning system for the Purge
movies and link that in with he alarms going off before
revealing the mob itself. Then, adding a ‘dip to colour dissolve’
transition onto the clips, a new idea had brightened up.
Rearranging to sync the first few clips of the mob walking onto
the floor to the sound of the Purge alarms going off, that
same transition had been placed at either side of each clip
making the screen go dark once the alarm rings out.
Repeating the process until the music starts, we now have a
start to the music video.
Going from start to finish, I will be adjusting all of the
camera movements having some shots zoomed in and
edited to move with the dancers.
I was going to attempt sharpening one of the shots
now, but since there are a few that will be needing that
I figured it would be best to do one thing at a time,
starting off with this as I am doing now.

For the first clapping montage I did try having the camera move between
the dancers for each clap, but the result was too messy.
Re-doing it, instead I have just made the camera zoom in slightly with the
effort being made of trying to keep the camera still. For when the frame
began to move off slightly I would place it back in the middle. Still not the
cleanest shot but it worked.
Not taking too long, the frame
adjustments are now complete. Next up,
is the sharpening for a few of the shots
as said.

Finding it to be a simple process pretty much, here

Although the tool has helped, the text on the Christmas shop doesn’t really do the
shot justice as you can tell there a sharpening tool has been used. What isn’t so
great as well is as the shot jumps onto the next, the frames don’t fit together.

After repeating that process another six times, the next
detail I want to fix is the colours. For the ‘birds-eye-
view’ shots, they all have a blue tone to them whereas
every other shot has a natural look to them.
I did try using another YouTube video to help with this, but I
couldn’t really find the right tutorial.
Finding the colour wheels, I started to mess around with
them trying to warm the frame up making it look natural. In
result, I am quite happy with how I have gotten it although I
am also surprised it worked. Saving how much of each
wheel was used, that will now be added to remaining clips
with this angle.
9 clips later, I can now move on.

With one more clip that sticks out to me that
needs adjusting, the lighting within this snippet is
just way too dark. Luckily it is just the one like this
so shouldn’t take too long I imagine.
Raising both the shadows and highlights, the
shot is now ten times better.
Another decision that has just been made, with the siren at the start ringing five times, that kinda feels too long for
the video to start so I have removed the first one having there now only be four with the first chime having nothing
but darkness for the visuals. Then getting to the second is where it begins with them walking into frame.
Bit confused now as for some reason I can’t get the remaining tracks to move along at all.
Easily fixed, turns out all of the tracks and been locked into place.

At this point now, I am not too sure what I could add to the video as I am
quite happy with the result of it now. Minus the shots that have been
sharpened but hey ho.
Before completely being done with it, I am going to have a browse at
davinci tutorials and see what there is that I could use for the video.
Finding an outline effect, I will
be giving this one a go. Getting it on, a two second delay has been placed with the
opacity turned down slightly, and a little animation had been
made getting the effect to line up with the then person and
then expand.
Now it’s just trying to think whether I should keep it and keep
on going or just give up on the effects entirely.

Playing around with a few more of the effects and transitions, I have come to terms with the
fact I am quite happy with how it looks and will be leaving it as is so I can now export it.
