Who Is Jesus Of Nazareth_ (225)

  1. 1. Who Is Jesus Of Nazareth?Who was Jesus of Nazareth? For nearly two thousand many years, the world has debated thisquestion. Some say He was a prophet. Some think he was a madman. Still other people think He wasa excellent teacher. But for those who identify His voice, the question is not really Who was Jesusassociated with Nazareth?, but rather Who is Jesus of Nazareth? Because unlike other men ofhistory, christ of Nazareth was, is, and will be for all of eternity.A careful examination of the historical record reveals that christ of Nazareth is nothing under theWord of God home as flesh among men. The Holy Spirit associated with God became a man andwalked among us:"at first the Word already existed. The term was with God, and the Word was God." john 1:1 (NLT)"So the Word became human and made his home in our midst." John 1:14 (NLT)"In Christ lives all the fullness of god in a human body." Colossians two :9 (NLT)While the majority of the worlds people desperately look for truth - to become closer to God Almighty, the originator of the Universe - the door is wide open for them to experience a personal relationshipwith that same God. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Their name is Jesus associatedwith Nazareth. But dont take my personal word for it. God has a number of identifiable character traits. If Jesus ofNazareth is worthy of the name of God Almighty as well as Lord of Heavens Armies, then thehistorical account of His life will reveal that He shared these distinctive traits. Lets examine all ofthem.Omniscient (All-Knowing)The meaning of God requires Him to be all-knowing. God must have knowledge of all things, including the thoughts of others. Did Jesus display this character trait? indeed. He did.History discloses a number of instances in which christ displayed His omniscience. RIght here, wellexamine a few.The Coin In The Fish -- Jesus illustrated His knowledge of the future, as well as His knowledge of themost minute details of development when He revealed to His disciples that they were to catch a fish, open its mouth, and find a large gold coin inside:"drop the lake and toss in a line. Open the actual mouth of the first seafood you catch, and you willfind a large silver coin." Matthew 17:27 (NLT)The Samaritan Woman - on meeting a Samaritan lady, Jesus told her everything your woman hadever done. His knowledge was enough in order to convince her that He had been the Messiah, andHis phrases were enough to convince many in her town that hes the Living Son of God:"Many Samaritans from the village believed in jesus because the woman had stated, He told meeverything we ever did!" steve 4:39 (NLT)"You Know Everything" - the actual disciples, who spent additional time with Jesus during their earthlyministry than anyone else, testified that He knows every thing - the very definition of omniscience:"Now we realize that you know everything, and theres you dont need to question you. From this we
  2. 2. believe that you came from God." steve 16:30 (NLT)"A third time he requested him, "Simon son associated with John, do you love me" Peter was hurt thatJesus asked the query a third time. He said, Lord, you know everything. You know that i love you."John twenty one :17 (NLT)12-Year aged Jesus In The Temple -- As a young boy, christ and His family made a pilgrimage to theTemple in Jerusalem. While there, Jesus astonished the Jewish religious instructors with Hisunderstanding:"three days later they lastly discovered him in the forehead, sitting among the religious instructors, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and hisanswers." Luke 2 :46-47 (NLT)"so how exactly does He Know All This?" - Jesus taught in the temple, and the people were amazedat the actual depth of His understanding, since He was not a guy educated and trained by men:"Then, half way through the festival, Jesus went up to the Temple and began to teach. The peoplewere surprised when they heard him. How does he know so much when he was not trained? theyrequested." John 7:14-15 (NLT)"One Of You Will Betray Me" - Jesus had fore-knowledge of His unfaithfulness. He knew that one ofthe very trusted members of their inner-circle would betray him :"Then Jesus said, I chose the twelve individuals, but one is a devil. He was talking about Judas, sonof Simon Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who does later betray him." steve 6:70-71 (NLT)Jesus Knew Of His death - Jesus had complete knowledge of His purpose in coming into the world. He understood what would happen to Him, the hands by which it would happen, and the miraculousevent which may take place three days later :"From then on Jesus started to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him or her to go toJerusalem, and that he might suffer many terrible points at the hands of the elders, the leadingpriests, and the teachers of religious law. He would end up being killed, but on the third day he wouldbe elevated from the dead." Matthew sixteen :21 (NLT)Omnipotent (All-Powerful)A second character characteristic of God is omnipotence. By definition, God is all-powerful. He haspower over all things. Did Jesus associated with Nazareth exhibit this character trait? History revealshe did.The Power To forgive Sin - According to the old Testament, only God has the ability to forgive sins. And also the Prophet Jeremiah prophesied of the day when God will forgive men of their wickednessand never again remember their sins:"And I will eliminate their wickedness, and I wont ever again remember their sins." Jeremiah 31:34(NLT)Yet, in spite of His knowledge that only God can forgive sins, Jesus obviously announced His ownpower to eliminate sins, thus revealing themself as God:"viewing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, My child, your sins are forgiven. But some fromthe teachers of religious regulation who were sitting there thought to themselves, What is he saying
  3. 3. This is blasphemy! Only god can forgive sins!a " Mark 2:5-11 (NLT)Power To Lay Down his Life - Throughout history, men and woman have died. Despite the immensepower some of these individuals wielded, not really a single one of them displayed the power to comeback to life once lifeless. Yet Jesus claimed to possess this power:"the daddy loves me because i sacrifice my life so I might take it back again. No one can consider mylife from me. We sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and alsoto take it up again." john 10:17-18 (NLT)Three days and three nights after His crucifixion, christ of Nazareth exhibited this particular power.Power Over blowing wind and Waves - such as one would expect of god, Jesus of Nazarethexperienced power over wind as well as waves:"When christ woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped andall was calm. Then he asked them, Where is your faith? the disciples were terrified as well asamazed. Who is this guy they asked each other. When he gives a command, even the wind and surfobey him!" luke 8:24-25 (NLT)Power Over Fish - similar to His power of the blowing wind and waves, Jesus highlighted His powerover all of creation by commanding the very movements of fish:"Then he said, Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and youll acquire some ! Sothey did, plus they couldnt haul in the internet because there were so many fish in it." John 21:6(NLT)His Breath Blew Down Soldiers - the actual Roman Army is known all through human history as oneof the most ruthless and powerful fighting causes the world has ever known. Yet, jesus of Nazarethcast Roman soldiers to the ground with the very breath of His mouth :"As Jesus said I AM he, they all drew back as well as fell to the ground!" John eighteen :6 (NLT)Power more than Physical RealmIn addition, the miracles of Jesus testify to His identity. These people proclaim His power within thephysical universe:"a man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, pleading to be healed. If you are willing, youcan heal me and make me clean,a he said. Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out as well astouched him. I m willing, he said. Be healed! Instantly the actual leprosy disappeared, and the guywas healed." Mark 1 :40-42 (NLT)"following Jesus left the womens home, two blind males followed along behind him, shouting, Son ofdonald, have mercy on us! They went right into the home where he was remaining, and Jesus askedall of them, Do you believe I can cause you to see? Yes, lord, they told him, we do. then hetouched their eyes as well as said, Because of your faith, it will happen. after that their eyes wereopened, and they could see!" Matthew nine :27-30 (NLT)"one of the men lying there had been ill for thirty-eight years. Whenever Jesus saw him as well asknew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, Would you like to get well I cant, mister, the sickguy said, for I have nobody to put me into the pool when the water bubbles upward. Someone elsealways gets there ahead of me. christ told him, Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk! Instantly, the
  4. 4. man was healed! He rolled away his sleeping mat as well as began walking!" John five :5-17 (NLT)"he or she saw that they were in severe trouble, rowing hard as well as struggling against the wind aswell as waves. About three oclock each morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. Heintended to go past them, but when they saw him walking on the water, these people cried out interror, considering he was a ghost." tag 6:48-49 (NLT)And Jesus performed many other miracles which required power within the physical universe, far toomany to be examined here.Omnipresent (Ever-Present)By definition, God is actually omnipresent. He is everywhere at all times. He exists in all locations inthe past, present, and future. Can this be said of christ Did Jesus of Nazareth really exhibit thispersonality trait? Yes. He did."I Saw you Under The Fig Tree" -- Upon first meeting Nathanael, Jesus proclaimed that He saw himunder the fig tree earlier that day. His declaration mesmerized Nathanael, who recognized this asknowledge which no other man could have. However Jesus was there. As the omnipresent Spirit oflord, He was present whenever Nathanael was under the fig tree:"As they contacted, Jesus said, Now here is a genuine son of Israel - a man of complete integrity. How do you know about me? Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, I could see you under the fig treebefore Philip discovered you. Then Nathanael exclaimed, Rabbi, you are the boy of God - the King ofIsrael!a " John 1:47-49 (NLT)The Holy Spirit - God is Spirit, and the Spirit of God became flesh in the name associated with Jesusof Nazareth:"In the beginning the Word already been around. The Word was with god, and the Word was god. Heexisted in the beginning along with God. God created every thing through him, and nothing was madeexcept through him. The term gave life to everything that was created, and his life introduced light toeveryone. The sunshine shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish this." John1:1-5 (NLT)Be With You Always -- Reminding them of his omnipresence, Jesus assured their disciples He wouldalways be with them, even to the end of the age :"And be sure of this particular : I am with you always, even going to the end of the age." Matthew28:20 (NLT)This unique ability to be present with each individual (not just the twelve disciples, but all that believein Him), at all times all through history, is demonstrative from the omnipresence of Jesus.Him Who Fills All -- In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul testifies that christ "fills all things everywherewith himself":"And the chapel is his body; its made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things almosteverywhere with himself." Ephesians one :23 (NLT)EternalYet another characteristic of God is actually His eternal nature. God is not bound by period or death. He is the foremost and the Last, the Alpha and the Omega. According to the Old testomony, there is
  5. 5. no other God:"This is what the Lord says - Israels King and Redeemer, the Lord of Heavens Armies: I am the Firstand the last ; there is no other God.a " Isaiah 44:6 (NLT)Does this character trait describe Jesus of Nazareth? The Apostle John claimed yes:"When I noticed him, I fell from his feet as if we were dead. But he or she laid his right hands on meand said, Dont be afraid! I am the first and the Last." Revelation one :17 (NLT)What did Jesus Say?So much, weve examined the evidence as recorded by the Old testomony prophets and the Newtestament witnesses. But what did Jesus Himself have to say about this subject? If had been truly therighteous spiritual teacher and holy man many claim Him to become, would He call themself God if todo so were false? Of course not. Yet this is exactly what Jesus claimed. On many occasions, Heunequivocally mentioned that He is God Almighty. The Father and I Are One - Jesus Himself claimed to become equal with God:"The Father and I are one." steve 10:30 (NLT)Before Abraham, I AM - based on the Old Testament, when Moses requested to the know the nameof God, the Almighty replied "I AM":"but Moses protested, If time passes to the people of Israel and tell them, The lord of your ancestorshas sent me to you, theyll ask me, What is his name? then what should I tell them? God replied toMoses, I AM WHO im. Say this to the individuals of Israel: I AM offers sent me to you.a " Exodus3:13-14 (NLT)In answering His experts, Jesus proclaimed Himself to be "I AM":"Jesus clarified, I tell you the truth, prior to Abraham was even born, im !" John 8:fifty eight (NLT)"Philip, dont you Know Me?" - when Philip asked to see the father, Jesus plainly told him he hadalready seen the daddy. To look upon Jesus, would be to look upon the Father:"Jesus replied, Have we been with you all this period, Philip, and yet you still have no idea who I am?Anyone who has observed me has seen the daddy ! So why are you asking me to show him to you?a" John 14:9 (NLT)You Will See the son of Man on Clouds of Heaven - While position before the High Priest to beinterrogated, Jesus was asked who He was. NO one with knowledge of the Old testament scripturescan mistake his response:"Jesus replied, You have said it. And in the future you will see the son of Man seated in the place ofpower at Gods correct hand and coming on the actual clouds of heaven.a " Matthew 26:64 (NLT)By claiming they would observe Him seated in the place of power at Gods right hand, Jesus wasstating Himself to be the Lord from the Old Testament:"the lord said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor inside my right hand until we humble yourenemies, making them a footstool under your ft." Psalm 110:one (NLT)By claiming theyd see Him coming on the actual clouds of heaven, christ was proclaiming Himself tobecome the One whose rule is actually eternal:"As my vision continued that evening, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of
  6. 6. heaven. He or she approached the Ancient 1 and was led in to his presence. He was handedauthority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race andnation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal -- it will never end. Their kingdom will neverbe destroyed." Daniel 7:13-14 (NLT)Jesus proclaimed Himself to be none other than God Himself.Accepts worship From Others Without Rebuke - In addition to His claims, what Jesus didnt state hasa lot to say about His identity. For example, Jesus clearly stated a person must only worship God:"Get from here, Satan, jesus told him. For the actual Scriptures say, You should worship the Lordyour god and serve only him or her." Matthew 4:10 (NLT)Yet, when people worshipped Jesus or fell down at His feet or even called Him Lord, he or she didnot rebuke them. He or she did not respond to them through saying, "Im only a guy. Dont worshipme." instead, He perpetuated the notion he should be honored like lord the Father:"He has provided the Son absolute authority to judge, so that everyone may honor the Son, just asthey honor the Father." steve 5:22-23 (NLT)The following examples show christ accepting this high compliment and honor:"My Lord and my lord ! Thomas exclaimed. After that Jesus told him, You believe because you haveseen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.a " John 20:28-29 (NLT)"Suddenly, a man along with leprosy approached him as well as knelt before him. Lord, the mansaid, if you are willing, you can recover me and make me thoroughly clean." Matthew 8:2 (NLT)"But she came and worshiped him, pleading again, Lord, help me !" Matthew 15:25 (NLT)"And as these people went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, understood hisfeet, and worshiped him." Matthew 28:nine (NLT)"Yes, head of the family, I believe! the man said. And he worshiped Jesus." steve 9:38 (NLT)In each of these instance, human beings gave Jesus praise, honor, and titles worthy of God on itsown. And He gladly accepted their own praise. What Did god Almighty Say?If jesus were the only witness of His divinity, then He shouldnt be believed. But Hes not the onlywitness. His Father within heaven also testified to the identity of Jesus associated with Nazareth:"And a tone of voice from heaven said, This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy."Matthew 3:17 (NLT)I Will Share My glory With No OneThe Old testament clearly documents Gods intention to share His glory without any one else:"im the Lord; that is my title ! I will not give my personal glory to anyone else, neither share my praisealong with carved idols." Isaiah 42 :8 (NLT)In fact, one of the ten commandments prohibits worship of false gods:"You must not have any other god but me." Exodus 20:3 (NLT)If God will not share his glory with anyone else, then by definition, Jesus associated with Nazarethcan not share in their glory. Unless, of course, jesus and God are one and the same. And this is theposition put forth by the Creator of the Universe:
  7. 7. Gods Voice SpeaksGod testified before men he would bring glory to the name of Jesus:"Father, bring glory to your name. Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, I have already broughtbeauty to my name, and that i will do so again. " John 12:28 (NLT)And Jesus spoke from the glory they share:"Now, Father, bring me personally into the glory we shared before the world began." steve 17:5 (NLT)Following the birth of christ, a host of angels praised lord in full sight of men, thus giving glory toJesus:"Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others - the armies of heaven - praising God andsaying, Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on the planet to those with whom lord ispleased." lomaz 2:13-14 (NLT)John also testifies to the beauty of Jesus:"we have seen his glory, the glory of the Fathers one and only Son." John 1:14 (NLT)Its the same beauty God proclaimed He would share with His son in the aged Testament:"The full proclaims the Lords decree: The Lord said to me, You are my son. Today I have becomeyour dad." Psalm 2:7 (NLT)How could lord glorify Jesus, and stay true to His word never to give His glory to anyone else, unlessgiving beauty to Jesus is the same as giving glory to God?ConclusionThe characteristics of God, just about all shared by Jesus of Nazareth, reflect the satisfaction of anOld Testament prediction - a promise around the world. God promised a sign, that a virgin wouldconceive a child, a boy whose name means God is with us, meaning He would end up being God inthe flesh:"All right then, the Lord themself will give you the sign. Appear ! The virgin will conceive a child! Shewill give delivery to a son and will call him up Immanuel (which means God is by using us)." Isaiah7:14 (NLT)This prophecy was fulfilled in the birth associated with Jesus of Nazareth:"As he considered this, a good angel of the Lord seemed to him in a dream. Joseph, son of David, the angel said, do not be afraid to take mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived bythe Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and youre simply to name him Jesus, with regard to he willsave his people from their sins. all this occurred to fulfill the Lords message through his prophet:Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will provide birth to a son, and theyll call him Immanuel, which means God is with us." Matthew 1:20-23 (NLT)Yet, despite this miraculous sign, and also the miraculous life which adopted, most of the world hasfailed to recognize the Creator among them. They Did Not Recognize HimThis is the message of the Gospel of John. God came into the world in human form, yet the veryworld He created failed to recognize Him:"He came into the very world he created, but the globe didnt recognize him." john 1:10 (NLT)
  8. 8. Even those who lay claim to the wisdom of this world failed to recognize their own Creator:"But the rulers of this globe have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified ourglorious Lord." one Corinthians 2:8 (NLT)Even many self-proclaimed christian believers fail to recognize the true identity of Jesus of Nazareth. He is the Christ, god, the father of lords, and king of kings. He is the actual Alpha and the Omega, thebeginning and the end.Dont replicate the mistakes of those who refuse to acknowledge the glory of Jesus of Nazareth. Hesmore than a holy man, the prophet, and a teacher. He is God among us.Jeremiah 29
