IdentityDefinitionThe stable, defining characteristics of a person thatmakes them an individual. This is one elementary subject that mostChristians still dont fully understand, and it is apowerful key to spiritual DEVELOPMENT ANDGROWTH for countless of believers around theworld today!
Knowing your IdentityImportance- It enables us to know the truth that sets us free- Enables us to identify with the promises of God’sword- Gives us power and spiritual authority oversickness and the enemy (Devil)- Gives others a picture of who Jesus is- Enables us to fellowship and identify withGod, Christ and the Holy Spirit
Not knowing our IdentityDisadvantages- We won’t love and relate with God as we ought to- Trusting God will become an issue- Living in mediocrity as we have no authority- It becomes difficult to truly fulfill our purpose; youwon’t live your life to the fullest- We struggle with issues of self-esteem, self acceptanceand we will always seek to please others for acceptance
What is therefore our Identity?Dont believe youre just an old forgiven sinner justbecause some pastor tells you so.Look these things up in the Word of God for yourself andknow the truth. For Jesus said clearly that if we continue inHis Word, we will know the truth and the truth will set usfree!
Our identity isI am loved by God and the blood of Christ has made meworthy- Not because of what we’ve done but because of who we are- Nothing we do can add to this love or subtract from it. Evenwhen we sin, the love of God is constant in our lives- For while we were still sinners Christ died for us (Rom 5: 8-"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yetsinners, Christ died for us.")- God loves us with the same kind of love he has towardsChrist. (John 17:23- "I in them, and thou in me, that they may be madeperfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hastloved them, as thou hast loved me.")
Our Identity is thatWe are loved and made worthy not because ofanything we have done or anything we will do.In fact without truly appreciating this fact:-- We cannot be filled with the fullness of God until wecome to know of His deep love for us (Eph 3:17-19 "ThatChrist may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded inlove, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, andlength, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passethknowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God)- We will trust God more and as such sin will fall awayfrom us.
What is this Love of the Father?1st John 2:15-16 (Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyoneloves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world— the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he hasand does — comes not from the Father but from the world.)Most be people look at this verse and think:-- This guy is sinning because he does not love God thatmuch; but look at it very well…The verse means- One indulges in these things because he does notunderstand how much God loves him! And that’s whyhe is worldly.
Deep explanation- Every time you indulge in the flesh (lust of theflesh, lust of the eyes, you are proud) its because youdo not know how much God loves you and that’s whyyou are compensating by feeling up the insecurities- That’s why one is jealous, as they think that whensomeone is blessed they have less! They do notbelieve in a loving big God who can bless someone andstill have much, much more remaining for you.- Understand that God does not have to bless others atyour expense.- You don’t have to be jealous; it reveals a small heart!
Explanation Continued- Why do we steal? We do not believe that God loves us so muchand that he will provide for us- Why do we lie? We do not believe that God can defend us fortelling the truth- Why do we commit adultery and fornication? We do not believethat God can satisfy us in our singleness or marriages In other words the Consciousness of God’s love for us which isour true identity is not in us. We don’t realize that God loves usso much more than we can imagine. Ephesians 3:17-19, "That Christ maydwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able tocomprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to knowthe love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.“ John 15:13, “Greater love has no-one than this, that he lay down his life for hisfriends.”
Strong foundationThe moment you realize that God love you:- You will have a strong foundation (sense of identity) whereyou will know in every situation that comes your way it’smeant for your good because God loves you and you trustHim.- You will have an improved self esteem and sense ofbelonging. After all God loves me. You will not seek toidentify with people or things just for acceptance.- Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life thesethings will just fall off- Even when we sin again and again we will still run to theFather as we know that He will help us because He loves us.
Conclusion It’s only through the realization and being activityconscience that God loves us will be able to truly enjoyChristianity and the power that comes through beingsaved. In addition, this realization will enable us to break freefrom sinful bondages and crippling mentality. Henceenabling us to become what we truly ought to be. Therefore, realize that you are loved not because ofanything you have done, but because of everything Hehas done. Always confess this to yourself. I am LOVED!And that’s your identity!
