4. This is Our AWS Set Up Right Now
Amazon Elastic Cloud (EC2)
• Use both standard and high cpu instances
• Standard instances are used for data collection and other non on demand functions
• High cpu instances are used for web application hosting, search and analysis
Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS)
• Used for both short term (better I/O performance than disk) and permanent storage
• All of our searchable data is stored on EBS file systems
Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS)
• Starting to experiment with this service to exchange messages and data between our instances,
components and modules
• It’s a good example of adopting a technology/service to replace a homegrown mechanism that may
already work well, but is not part of our services core function or value. Costs savings and
performance/quality gains are realized as a result.
• Long term, we see this as potential way for some our customers to interface with our service
